The Eau Claire public library is adding a staffer to help patrons dealing with poverty and homelessness. The library calls the new position the Community Resource Specialist. Staff say the new employee will be available to answer questions about Medicare coverage, financial assistance, and where to find a place to stay daily.

A firefighter with the Cameron Fire Department says the cabin’s owners were on the lake a mile away when the explosion happened. The cabin is being considered a total loss and the cause of the explosion is currently unknown.

A criminal complaint says a young boy told police 52-year-old Joseph Schindler touched him inappropriately over the span of about a month and Schindler allegedly admitted to the touching. Schindler pleaded no contest to the crime and will also serve six months of probation after his jail sentence.

The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office says 27-year-old Adam Hoff called police to his Ettrick home early Sunday morning saying he accidentally shot his wife, 25-year-old Shayli Hoff. She was taken to the hospital and Hoff was arrested and charged with handling a firearm while under the influence and bail jumping.
