LAFAYETTE PARENTS FACING NEGLECT CHARGES

A Lafayette County woman is pleading guilty in a child neglect case.  Jamie Weigel and her husband are accused of not feeding their one-year-old daughter enough.  Weigel pleaded guilty to a child abuse and child neglect charge earlier this week.  She’ll be sentenced in December.  Weigel’s husband is also facing charges.  He has a plea hearing on October 21st.

PASSERSBY CALL IN FIRE

No one is hurt following a house fire on Menomonie Street in Eau Claire.  Fire officials say someone passing by the 17-hundred block of Menomonie Thursday afternoon saw the outside of a house on fire.  No one was home at the time but a dog was rescued from the fire.  The fire was put out within ten minutes.  It’s unclear what caused it.

TRIBAL LEADERS BAN VAPING PRODUCTS

Leaders of the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribe are banning the sale and use of vaping products on tribal lands.  The tribal chairman says the decision was made to safeguard tribal members from the adverse effects associated with vaping.  The LCO Legal Department is currently working on an ordinance that will outline legal action involving vaping products.

Mondovi is holding its second annual Oktoberfest this weekend.  ‘ The event will feature wine and beer tasting, a chili cook-off, wagon rides, and other activities.  The event starts at eight o’clock Saturday morning in downtown Mondovi.  It’s free to the public and will take place rain or shine.

EC MAN PLEADS GUILTY IN SEX CASES

The suspect in two Eau Claire County sex cases is looking at 40 years in prison as part of a plea deal. Prosecutors say Jason Weber pleaded guilty yesterday to a case from 2018 and another from 2019. The specifics of the deal won’t be known til Weber is sentenced in December. He’s facing 40 years in prison.

LOCAL SCHOOL SEES WHOOPING COUGH OUTBREAK

Public health managers in Dunn County are working to contain a whooping cough outbreak at the elementary school in Elk Mound. At least two cases have been confirmed. The Dunn County Health Department yesterday said they are working with school leaders and parents. Whooping cough is very contagious, but can be difficult to diagnose because the symptoms are often close to the symptoms of a common cold.

WHEATON SETS UP DONATIONS

Leaders in Wheaton say the town is almost out of money. The town launched a donation drive this week to raise money after last month’s tornado. Fire Chief Adam Blaskowski says the town spent 400 thousand-dollars on storm clean-up. That leaves Wheaton with very little for anything else. The town is accepting donations at any Northwestern Bank location or at town hall.

KWIK TRIP GOES CLICK TRIP

A Big Buddy and a box of Glazers is now just a click away. Kwik Trip yesterday announced it is starting delivery in the Chippewa Valley. The store says people can use their phone or computer to get snacks and food delivered to their door. Kwik Trip started delivery in Madison and the Fox Valley earlier this year, and says the response has been tremendous.

Drink responsibly, never drink and drive, and be mindful of others. That’s the advice ahead of this weekend’s BluGold homecoming. Eau Claire police say they will step-up patrols this weekend. The main focus will be on drinking and driving. Police say there’s no excuse for someone to have too many, then get behind the wheel.

PLANS JUMP AHEAD FOR CAMP RANDALL

The latest plans for new seats at Camp Randall include some upgraded seats. The University of Wisconsin yesterday unveiled plans for premium seating for the field house end zone at the stadium. There are also plans for new fan experiences. In addition to the new indoor/outdoor seats, UW is promising new and better food options for fans once the project is complete.
