SHERIFFS OFFICE INVESTIGATES FARM CONDITIONS

On Friday May 3, 2019 the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint of several deceased cows on a farm near Almena. Deputies responded to the scene and located about 20-25 deceased cows. Initial investigation shows that the cows were deceased over the winter months for several reasons, including winter conditions, illness or from possible stray voltage. ANONYMOUS TIP LEADS TO ARREST

On Thursday May 9, 2019 at 11:47pm the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received an anonymous tip that Trevor Davis was at a residence outside of Cameron. Davis had several warrants for his arrests from Eau Claire, Rusk and Barron Counties. Deputies responded to this address and Trevor fled on foot from a car he was in, into a house where he hid. POLICE LOOKING FOR TEEN

Police are on the lookout for a person of interest in a deadly shooting in Kenosha, south of Milwaukee.  Police say 16-year-old Kaylie Juga was shot and killed earlier this week and 15-year-old Martice Fuller was seen leaving the scene.  Police want to question Fuller and they say he could be armed and dangerous.

RICE LAKE MAN CHARGED WITH CHILD ABUSE

A Rice Lake man is accused of squeezing a baby so hard he thought he broke it’s leg.  A criminal complaint claims Justin Ruthenberg took the nine-month-old girl to the hospital on April 30th and police say she had bruises on her face and bruises and hand prints on her leg.  Ruthenberg said he forcibly held the baby down while he was changing her diaper and had skipped feeding her because she was fussy.  Ruthenberg is charged with child abuse-intentionally

HERE’S A TIP…

Some state lawmakers are trying to make cash tips tax free.  A bill was recently drafted that would make cash tips received while working exempt from state income tax, though they’d still need to be reported for federal tax returns.  If the bill passes Wisconsin would become the first state with a state tax exemption for cash tips.

WI POLITICS CLASH

The Wisconsin Joint Finance Committee is putting the breaks on over 100 policies from Governor Tony Evers’ state budget.  Reports say the Republican-led committee voted eleven-to-four against 131 policies yesterday, forcing them to have to be brought up separately in the Legislature.  Some of the policies rejected include Medicaid in Wisconsin, drivers licenses for illegal immigrants, and legalization of medical marijuana.

Flynn Elementary School in Eau Claire is the winner of a national award.  Reports say Flynn was awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award yesterday for closing its achievement gap.  Flynn is one of eight Wisconsin schools that will be recognized with the award this year.

DRUG BUST HEADED TO TRIAL

The suspect in Eau Claire’s largest drug bust ever is heading toward a trial.  Samuel Serrano pleaded not guilty yesterday to drug trafficking charges.  Police say they found three-million-dollars’ worth of cocaine in Serrano’s truck back in April.  Federal prosecutors may also be looking to file charges against Serrano as well.

HIGH WATER COMES WITH HIGH PRICE TAG

There is no price tag for the flooding in La Crosse yet, but city leaders expect it to be big.  La Crosse Utilities Manager Bernard Lenz says his department spent 100-thousand-dollars just dealing with their issues this spring.  That doesn’t take into account any of the other costs.  The Mississippi River stayed at flood stage for 41 straight days this spring, and is still high in many places.

FOOD TRUCK RECIPE FOR SUCCESS?

City leaders in  La Crosse aren’t ready to okay new food truck rules just yet.  City Council member Christine Kahlow last night said she still needs to have a few discussions before she’s ready to ask for a vote on her plan to restrict where food trucks can operate. Her proposal would keep trucks at least 150 feet away from brick-and-mortar restaurants.
