ACT 10 BACK ON CENTER STAGE

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul says he’d defend Act 10 in court, even if many Democrats don’t like the law.  Republican lawmakers this week said they plan to step in to the latest attempt to throw out the law that changes how public sector unions can bargain in the state because they’re not sure the AG would act.  Kaul says that’s not necessary, he said he ‘fully’ anticipates that his office would defend Act 10.

WHERE’S THE BEEF?

Wisconsin is one of the states on the list for recalled beef.  The USDA is recalling 62-thousand-pounds of beef packaged at a plant in the Chicago suburbs.  There are fears about E coli.  The meat was packaged at Aurora Packing Company in North Aurora, but was sold at stores across the country.  The USDA has a full list of recalled products on its website and you can CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION.

GUNS IN CROSS HAIRS INSIDE CAPITOL BUILDING

There’s once again a conversation about guns inside the Wisconsin State Capitol.  Democratic state Rep. Shelia Stubbs is demanding an apology after she says Republican state Rep. Shae Sortwell wore his pistol into her office.  The Capitol allows people to carry guns, but individual lawmakers can ban them in their offices.  Stubbs bans weapons in her office.  Sortwell is not accused of threatening anyone, or being in appropriate.  Stubbs says he should apologize.  Sortwell isn’t saying if the accusations are true.

CLEAR ACT AIMS TO CLEAR UP CHEMICALS

Democratic legislators are rolling out their plan to protect communities from chemical contamination.  Chemicals called PFAS’s are found in household products as well as in firefighting foams.  The contaminant was discovered in drinking water in the town of Peshtigo near a facility that manufactures firefighter foam.  Governor Tony Evers was in Green Bay today to introduce the CLEAR Act.  It would have the DNR establish acceptable levels, standards and monitoring requirements to deal with the toxic chemicals.

TWO CHARGED IN CEMETERY DAMAGE

Earlier this month, the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office took a report of damage to several headstones at the Straw Hill Cemetery located in the Township of Spring Brook. We now have more information about who was behind that. James R. Allbright Jacobson of Bloomer, Wisconsin and Chase A. Schultz of Cadott, Wisconsin were each charged with Criminal Damage to Property based upon their involvement in damaging the headstones at the cemetery. They are scheduled to appear in court on July

YARD SALE GRENADE LEADS TO PRISON TIME

A Clarke County man is going to prison after being convicted of having drugs and a hand grenade.  Reports say police were searching Robert Bounds’ house in Neillsville in February of last year when the grenade was found.  Drugs and drug paraphernalia were also found and Bounds claimed he bought the grenade for five dollars at a yard sale.  Bounds pleaded guilty to possession of THC with intent to distribute and was sentenced to two years in jail with credit

WOMAN IN CUSTODY AFTER BAT-BEATING

A Mauston woman is in custody after being accused of imprisoning a woman and hitting her in the head with a bat.  A criminal complaint claims police in Juneau County were called about a woman bleeding from the head last Sunday.  The victim told an officer that she was at Linda Heyroth’s house when she asked Heyroth to be quiet but she hit her in the head with a bat.  She also claimed Heyroth trapped her in the house and

A Boyceville man is avoiding jail time after pleading no contest to trying to meet a 15-year-old girl for sex.  A criminal complaint claims an undercover officer set up the encounter on Craigslist and Brandon Bien responded to it.  He was arrested at the meeting place with lingerie and condoms.  Bien pleaded no contest to one count of child enticement yesterday and was sentenced to four years of probation and either 30 days of jail or 240 hours of community

CHIPPEWA CASHES IN ON LOAN

Chippewa Falls will be borrowing nearly two-point-four-billion-dollars this next fiscal year.  Reports say the city unanimously approved the borrowing package Tuesday night that also included 715-thousand dollars in promissory notes.  A financial advisor says the two-point-seven-three percent interest rate on the loan is a great rate.  The city will pay it off at 165-thousand dollars-per-year.

La Crosse is among the fastest shrinking cities in Wisconsin.  According to recent U.S. Census Bureau data, La Crosse lost 184 people between 2017 and 2018, making it one of the top ten fastest shrinking cities.  Milwaukee shrank the most with nearly 19-hundred people leaving the city.  Sun Prairie gained the most residents at over 25-hundred.
