Thousands of people are still without power because of severe storms over the weekend.  According to Barron Electric, most outages in the area are north of Eau Claire starting near the Village of New Auburn and going north to Cumberland.  At one point last Friday up to ten-thousand people were without power in Barron County.

STORMS RUMBLE, CLEAN UP CONTINUES

Towns and cities across Wisconsin are getting a bit more help to clean-up after the latest round of severe weather.  Governor Tony Evers yesterday declared a state of emergency after a line of thunderstorms cut across the state on Saturday.  Thousands of people were left without power, and the storms knocked down trees and knocked over a few barns.  The state of emergency allows the Wisconsin National Guard to assist local communities, it’s also the first step toward requesting federal money to help pay

THREE KILLED IN ST. CROIX CO. CRASH

The sheriff in St. Croix County says a missing stop sign may be to blame for a deadly crash last Friday.  Three people died when a motorcycle smashed into a car at the intersection of State Highway 64 and County Highway T in Stanton Township.  Cars on Highway T are supposed to stop, but Sheriff Scott Knudson says the stop sign may have been knocked down.

CAN’T STOP THE HOP? MKE STREETCAR HITS RED LIGHT

A watchdog in Madison says it doesn’t make sense to spend road money on Milwaukee’s streetcar.  Mike Nichols with the Badger Institute said last week that the plan from Governor Tony Evers’ administration to use road money to expand the streetcar goes against the idea of earmarking money for roads.  Nichols says not only would the governor take money away from road construction, but he says there’s no evidence The Hop is bringing tourists to Milwaukee.

WI PRIESTS IDENTIFIED IN ABUSE CASES

You can add 22 more names to the list of priests in Wisconsin who are accused of abusing children.  The St. Norbert Abbey late last week named 22 priests who abbey leaders say were ‘credibly accused.’  Only five of the 22 are still living, and none of them are preaching any longer.  Abbot Dane Radecki says they released the names in the ‘spirit of accountability.’

EC RIVER RESCUE NEAR BOYD PARK

A Sunday afternoon river rescue serves as a reminder to be careful when heading out. The Eau Claire Fire Department responded for a person in distress operating a Kayak in the Eau Claire River. One person was rescued near the South bank of the river between the S-Bridge and Boyd Park by a crew of Eau Claire Firefighters and Police Officers. CREWS RESPOND TWICE TO SAME FIRE LOCATION

A fire in Rice Lake had crews out twice to the same location over the weekend. It was on Friday evening when a report came in of a fire at 1 Jachim Place in the City of Rice Lake. At about 7:40 crews arrived to heavy fire but extinguished the blaze. Then, on Saturday morning just before 6:30 a call came in from the same location after the fire rekindled. SEVERE WEATHER HITS OUR AREA

Structural damage, death and personal injury are the result of strong storms in Wisconsin yesterday.  Wausau fire crews say a lightning strike may have caused a trailer fire in which one man died.  In Trempealeau County high winds busted out a window in a Galesville house that sent flying glass injuring a resident.  In Gale a man was injured when a tree fell on his RV.

WEATHER A FACTOR IN DEADLY CRASH

One person is dead after a two-car crash on Highway 53 near Whitehall.  First responders found a car in a ditch and a truck on its side off of 53 near Dubbert Road around nine o’clock last night.  One person involved died and another has serious injuries.  It’s believed weather played a factor in the crash.

UW STOUT ALUM KILLED IN ROCK CLIMBING ACCIDENT

A woman killed in a rock climbing fall in Minnesota last weekend has ties to west-central Wisconsin.  According to Caring-Page, Rebecca Nara was rock climbing at Gooseberry State Park last Saturday when she fell.  Nara died of a serious brain injury on Wednesday.  Nara was an alumni of University of Wisconsin-Stout in Menomonie.
