TOMAH SEES NEW ADDITION TO VA HEALTH CENTER

The City of Tomah has a brand new VA health center.  You may have seen this on WXOW, as they report the Whole Health Integrative Wellness Center had its grand opening recently where speeches were given by the center’s director, a U.S. Marine Veteran, and others.  Veterans in attendance had the opportunity to try the practices currently offered at the center after the ribbon cutting.  Some of those practices include suicide prevention, a drum circle, and aromatherapy.

GAS…P! SNOW TO BLAME FOR GAS STATION CANOPY COLLAPSE

One person is injured after a canopy collapsed at the Holiday on Birch Street in Eau Claire.  One vehicle was trapped under the canopy at the time of the collapse yesterday morning and the person who was injured is believed to have been inside it.  Fire officials believe the weight of snow caused the collapse. Snow fell AGAIN in over the weekend! And now we might be dealing with the melting… Chippewa Valley residents are removing snow again.  A weekend storm hit western Wisconsin over the weekend, leaving residents shoveling and snow blowing yesterday morning.  Flooding is a concern for some homeowners because of the amount of snow this season. Just a reminder: Another snow event is going into effect in Eau Claire.  The new snow event begins at midnight and will end Wednesday evening.

EVERS RAISES GLASS TO WEDDING BARNS

Governor Evers’ administration is saying barn owners who host weddings and receptions won’t be required to get liquor licenses.  Evers announced his decision Friday, providing clarity in a longstanding debate between operators of wedding venues on farmland and restaurant and bar owners who say all venues should be treated the same regarding the consumption of alcohol.

EVERS MAKING BUDGET ROUNDS

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers is trying all he can to get people on board with his new state budget.  The governor last week sold his spending plan as a way to help young workers get a foothold in the workplace.  The governor wants to spend more money at the state’s technical colleges as part of his budget.  But Evers has said that without tax increases, he may not be able to do much with his new spending plan.

WI MASSAGE PARLORS RUBBING SOME THE WRONG WAY

With the news about Patriots owner Robert Kraft still fresh, one Wisconsin lawmaker says now is the time to target ‘bad actor’ massage parlors.  State  Rep. Joe Sanfelippo has a plan to allow the state to target massage parlors that do more than just rub shoulders and feet.  Sanfelippo says local communities across Wisconsin often don’t have the resources to investigate massage parlors, and he wants to state to take on that job.  Sanfelippo pitched a similar idea last year,

HEY! HOW ABOUT A NEW SNOW EVENT?

A new Snow Event has been declared and will go into effect at 12-midnight, 3/11/19 and will end at 5 p.m. on 3/13/19.    The current Snow Event continues to be in effect.  Residents can expect that for at least the next two weeks Alternate Side Parking rules will continue to be implemented.  The current alternate side parking ordinance requires a new Snow Event be declared every 72 hours.  Temporary No Parking signs may being used in some neighborhoods to assist

WILL THE DNC PICK MKE?

UW-Madison Professor Michael Wagner says the impact of hosting the Democratic National Convention not only boosts the state’s revenue, but could also result in more voter turnout.  DNC Chairman Tom Perez is still deciding which city will host the 2020 convention.  Milwuakee, Wisconsin is one of the options going up against Houston, Texas and Miami, Florida.  Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Governor Tony Evers remain optimistic about the DNC coming to Wisconsin.

MADISON SEES DRUG DEATHS RISE, OVERDOSES DROP

Madison’s police chief says heroin deaths are up so far in 2019, but reported overdoses are down.  On his blog Friday, Police Chief Mike Koval said in the first two months of 2018, five people died from heroin overdoses.  But, in 2019 that number is six.  However, Koval says Madison police have responded to two fewer heroin overdose calls this February in comparison to last February.  The chief noted that this is an eleven-percent decrease.

EVERS BUDGET NOT ADDING UP?

Even though Republican lawmakers are slamming Governor Tony Evers’ budget request as ultra liberal, several progressive measures the Governor touted before are missing from it.  On the campaign trail, Evers’ pledged to take large steps to reduce the state’s prison population.  He also called for an end to the reliance on the funds generated from veterans homes to comprise the Veterans Trust Fund.  However, both of these measures are missing from his budget request.  A spokeswoman for Evers said the
