ELDERLY WOMAN INJURED BY DRUNK DRIVER

An elderly woman is fighting for her life after what deputies say looks like a drunk driving wreck in Monroe County. The sheriff says it happened about 2:30 yesterday morning on Highway 21, just north of Tomah. The victim, 73-year-old Garrene Peasley, was found in the front yard of a house after the crash. Deputies arrested 36-year-old Charles Davis Jr. of Tomah on OWI charges. Investigators are not releasing any other details about the wreck.

VOTER ROLLS COULD HEAD TO TOP COURT

The court fight over Wisconsin’s voter rolls is a step closer to the Wisconsin Supreme Court. The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, the group who started the case, on Friday asked the Supreme Court to hear arguments. A judge in Ozaukee County ordered the Wisconsin Election Commission to remove 234 thousand people from the state’s voting system because they have moved or not answered questions about their address. MARSY’S LAW CHALLENGED

There is a challenge to a proposed constitutional amendment that would give crime victims more rights in Wisconsin. The so-called Marsy’s Law would require courts and judges to include victims when sentencing and dealing with suspects and convicted criminals. But the group, the Wisconsin Justice Initiative, is challenging the proposal. WILD DONATION BENEFITS WI ZOO

The Henry Vilas Zoo is set to benefit from a generous donation.  The Henry Vilas Park Zoological Society announced Friday it plans to donate eight-million-dollars to the zoo it used to curate until the city took over the zoo park administration.  The monies are going into three separate sub-funds.   One is earmarked to have a million-dollars in a permanent endowment, a second fund has six-hundred-thousand-dollars available to help pay for the zoo’s necessities and the balance will be used in

BADGERS BUMPED FROM NATIONAL TITLE

The number 4 Wisconsin Badgers are runner ups in the 2019 NCAA Volleyball Tournament.   Yesterday in Pittsburgh, a tough number 3 Stanford Cardinal squad quashed the Badgers hopes of taking the championship with a three set sweep in the final.   The Cardinal has won three national titles in the past four seasons.  The Badgers finish the season as Big Ten champs with a 27-7 winning record.

DASSEY DENIED

One of the subjects of the popular Netflix documentary series Making a Murderer is being denied a pardon.   Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers said Brendan Dassey’s pardon request was denied because Dassey had yet to meet certain criteria.  Dassey and his uncle Stephen Avery were convicted of murdering Teresa Halbach.  Questions arose about the validity of his confession.

TAX CUT PART OF REPUBLICAN 2020 VISION?

Republican state legislators say they want to cut property taxes.  Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald said yesterday that they are working out the details of a tax cut bill to be introduced early next year.  He said the size of the cut will partly depend on the tax revenue forecast, which will be updated in January.

COUNTERFEIT MONEY ADDS UP TO PROBATION

An Illinois woman convicted of using counterfeit money in Eau Claire is avoiding jail time.  Reports say Chianne Royster was sentenced to probation.  Royster and three other people were charged earlier this year with using fake 100 dollar bills at nearly a dozen businesses in the Eau Claire area.
