Madison Reviews Improperly Processed Ballots

Almost 200 general election ballots were improperly processed in Madison.  The City Clerk’s Office says the ballots were found while cleaning up after the election, still in sealed bags.  Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway says a review of the City’s election procedures is underway so the same thing won’t happen again.  The Clerk’s Office says there weren’t enough ballots to change the outcome of any races or referendums, but letters will be sent to affected voters apologizing for the oversight.

Dunn Co. Sheriff Offers Update After Recent Crash

We have an update on a recent incident in Dunn County: The operator of the vehicle involved in a recent Elk Mound crash was transported to a local hospital following the crash. On December 23, 2024, the Dunn County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that the operatordied at the hospital due to complications from injuries suffered in the crash. Christmas Water Rescue in Barron Co.

On Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at 6:54 p.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Department 911 center received a call of two people and a UTV that went through the ice near the Pokegama Boat Landing east of Chetek. Bird Flu Confirmed in Burnett Co. Flock

The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) has identified a case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI H5N1) in a commercial poultry flock in Burnett County. DATCP and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) animal health officials are working together in a joint incident response. Robbery Suspect in Jail

The suspect in a pair of Jackson County bank robberies is in jail. Prosecutors this week filed formal charges against 26-year-old Michaela Davis. Investigators say she robbed the Jackson County Bank in Black River Falls back in 2018. She’s also accused of knocking-over the Jackson County Bank in Alma Center in early 2019. Investigators say she got about seven thousand-dollars. Prosecutors say she later admitted to both robberies.

Overdoses On Decline

Chippewa County says it’s seen just five overdoses in 2024. The county’s health department says it continues to see fewer overdose deaths. In 2022, Chippewa County saw 10 ODs. Public school libraries in Wisconsin are getting a record payday from the state. Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski last week said she distributed more than 70 million-dollars to school libraries from the state’s Common School Fund. Local Administrator Moves from WI to MI

Chippewa County’s county administrator is leaving for a new job in Michigan. Randy Scholz is set to become city manager in Ishpeming, Michigan. That’s on the UP, near Marquette. Schloz turned-in his resignation to Chippewa County back in mid-November. His last day is set for March. Schloz says the move to Michigan will put him closer to family.
