From pot holes to POT…A referendum question about legalizing marijuana is set to be on Eau Claire County’s November ballot. Voters will have the choices and those include: Making marijuana legal for medical and recreational purposes for those over 21, only legalizing it for medical purposes with a prescription, or keeping the drug illegal. If marijuana is legalized, board supervisors say money from taxes on the drug would be used for education, health care, and infrastructure.

Candidates are hitting the roads and TALKING roads. Democratic nominee for Governor Tony Evers was in our area yesterday to discuss his views on improving roads and bridges. Evers was in Eau Claire saying he’s disturbed that the state has downgraded its bridges, and blames Walker for the state of the infrastructure. Walker responded saying he’s put 24 billion into the transportation system.

Another anchor store in the Oakwood Mall will be out soon. Sears announced it will be closing by November, the Eau Claire mall location is one of 46 Sears or Kmart stores nationwide that will be shutting doors. The auto center is also planning to close, a little bit earlier than the store, likely late October.

Things are tight in our current political climate: An early peek in shows us that it is a virtual dead heat for the two top candidates vying for governor this November.  A new Marquette University Law School poll of likely voters finds incumbent Republican Scott Walker and Democratic Challenger Tony Evers each with 46-percent support.  Libertarian Phil Anderson has six-percent and two-percent say they lack a preference.  Among all registered voters, Walker leads Evers 46-to-44-percent with Anderson at seven-percent.  As

Authorities say they have found the body of the second pontoon boater missing since the weekend.  The search ended yesterday morning when the body of 22-year-old Antonio Robinson was located in the water near the dam.  Both men were from Minnesota and were in town on a camping trip with family.  The circumstances of the two deaths are unknown and are still under investigation.

WHEEL see if LaCrosse follows other counties in our state as they are considering implementing an annual wheel tax. Mayor Tim Kabat says it’s the only way to continue funding road repairs and has introduced legislation for the tax for city residents. He says the city has run out of its rainy day fund, can’t raise sales taxes, and doesn’t want to raise property taxes. The proposal calls for a 25-dollar wheel tax per registered vehicle every year. The Grand Avenue Bridge is nearly completed and ready for you to lace up and take a walk across. It will open today in time for the 5th annual Grand Evening on the Bridge. Downtown Eau Claire is hosting a dinner on the newly renovated bridge. The new bridge is two feet wider than it was before. Construction is still wrapping up on the east end, so people are asked to enter from the west side on Grand Avenue.

Torrential rain is prompting a State of Emergency to be declared around Madison.  The National Weather Service estimates as much as a foot or more of rain has fallen over the early part of the week in Dane County.  Some evacuations have been carried out west of Madison.  The state of emergency will allow the county to receive state and federal disaster aid.

Police are searching for the person responsible for backing into a convenience store in Dunn County.  Elk Mound Police say the hit-and-run happened at the Travel Stop on Highway 12 last month.  The suspect hit the building with his truck, then got out to survey the damage before heading in the store to make a purchase and then driving off.  Damage is estimated at nearly 900-dollars.
