Wisconsin Senators Tammy Baldwin and Ron Johnson are calling on Wisconsinites to remember the losses and courage of September 11, 2001.  In tweets today Baldwin said survivors and first responders carry the weight of that day with them always and it’s important to stand by them and families of those who were lost.  Senator Johnson visited the 9/11 Memorial this week in New York City where there was a Homeland Security hearing.  He says people need to go there to be reminded

THE WALL THAT HEALS

The Wall That Heals is in Manitowoc for a display that opens at the County Expo Center.  The free exhibit runs from September 12th to the 15th and will be open 24 hours.  The wall is a three-quarters-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC.  The names of all 58-thousand-people who served and died are inscribed on the wall, including many from Manitowoc County.

EC COUNTY BOARD SEEKS APPLICATIONS

Eau Claire County Board Supervisor Brandon Buchannan is stepping down from his position.  Buchannan recently announced he’s moving away from Eau Claire, opening up a position on the board.  The board is seeking applicants to fill out the rest of Buchannan’s term until the next election in April.  Supervisor Colleen Bates says it’ll take about 30 days to fill the seat once the application announcement is posted.

RUSK CO. FIRE LEAVES HOME DESTROYED

A home is destroyed following a fire in Rusk County.  The Bruce Fire Department says the fire broke out yesterday at a house on Tate Road in Thornapple and required three different fire departments to respond.  It took hours to put the fire out but no one was hurt.  It’s unclear what caused the fire.

RABID BAT FOUND IN CHIPPEWA CO.

A fourth rabid bat has been found in Chippewa County.  The county department of public health says the bat was found on September 5th on the walking path near McIntyre Road and Park Road in Cornell.  This is the fourth rabid bat found since early August and the second found within the last month.

WEATHER OFF THE RADAR

Many people in the Chippewa Valley could be without National Weather Service radar for a few weeks.  Reports say the NWS began replacing old radar equipment at its center in Chanhassen, Minnesota on Monday.  The NWS will still be able to issue warnings and use nearby radars to monitor the weather.  The radar is expected to be back up and running between September 19th and 30th.

DAD ARRESTED FOR DEATH OF BABY

A Jackson County dad is being held on reckless homicide charges in the death of his two-month-old baby.  Investigators say the little girl’s mother called 911 last week, but the baby was already dead.  On Tuesday, Jackson County deputies arrested 32-year-old Armas Cravins the second.  The sheriff’s office is not saying how the little girl died.

TIFFANY RUNNING ALONE…FOR NOW

The first person who wants to replace Sean Duffy in Congress is officially in the race.  State Senator Tom Tiffany yesterday launched his bid to become the northwoods next congressman.  Tiffany told a crowd in Cadott that he drained the swamp in Madison, and will do the same in Washington D.C.  Duffy is leaving Congress this month to spend more time with his family.  There will be a special election to replace him.

TOWN OF WHEATON HEATS UP INDEPENDENT FIRE PROTECTION

The town of Wheaton is looking to go on its own for fire protection.  Town leaders last night voted to leave the Chippewa Fire District at the end of next year.  Wheaton will start its own fire department, though leaders are talking with Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire about EMS and ambulance service.  Wheaton board president Mark Blaskowski said the town spends about 200-thousand-dollars a year to be a part of the Chippewa Fire District, but he says that money
