A Marathon County woman convicted of murder is being released from prison today.  Lori Esker was convicted of strangling Lisa Cihaski to death in 1989 when Esker was 21-years-old.  The Department of Corrections says Esker was recommended for a discretionary release last month and it was approved a week later. 

Attendance is up for another year at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair.  The fair’s executive director says he doesn’t have exact numbers but this year’s attendance was more than last year’s 92-thousand people.  He says good weather was a big factor in this year’s turnout. 

The jury is still out on what kind of storm knocked down trees and knocked out power in Rusk and Barron counties.  The National Weather Service is sending teams to Rusk County today to see if a tornado touched down last night.  Barron County’s sheriff is blaming strong straight-line winds for damage there.  There are no reports of any serious injuries. 

The issue making waves in The City of Clear Water will now instead heat up Cinder City. The  Eau Claire County Veterans Foundation yesterday said it’s going to build its two million-dollar Veterans Tribute Trail and park in Altoona.  In the statement, the organization said: “It is the official position of the Eau Claire County Veterans Tribute Foundation that after much deliberation, we are moving our plans for the $2,200,000 Veteran’s tribute from the City of Eau Claire to the

The bridge to Lafayette in Chippewa County is once again open.  The county opened the bridge at Paint Creek on 195th Street this week.  It had been closed since a partial collapse last year.  Chippewa County only paid about 10-percent of the one-point-three-million-dollars it cost to build the new bridge, the rest of the money came from Madison or Washington D.C. 

Don’t be surprised if you see a lot of military vehicles in Monroe and Juneau counties this week.  The Wisconsin National Guard is hosting a training exercise.  The Patriot North drill will last until Thursday at Volk Field in Camp Douglas and Fort McCoy in Tomah.  The idea is to help Wisconsin troops work better with local first responders to prepare for natural disasters and the aftermath of a storm. 

Green groups in Wisconsin are happy that the state’s largest power company is dropping a proposed fee on people who have solar panels on their homes.  Renew Wisconsin and the Sierra Club both say it’s good news that We Energies yesterday agreed to drop the 180 dollar-a-year solar fee from it’s rate increase.  The groups said it was a barrier to green energy.  We Energies is looking to raise rates on customers six-percent over the next two years to help pay for what’s being

Former Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker is tapped to be president of a conservative youth organization.  Young America’s Foundation announced Walker has been elected by its board of directors and will take charge in February 2021.  The foundation introduces students to conservatism through campus programs and conferences.  

Attorney General Josh Kaul wants more transparency regarding the Department of Justice opinion process.  The attorney general unveiled a new process and website for all Wisconsinites to provide feedback on proposed attorney general opinion topics.  Kaul says he wants people to weigh-in on issues facing review, prior to the DOJ drafting its opinion.  The attorney general has tweeted a link to the opinion request web page. 

We have a little more information about a robbery at a Lake Hallie bank this morning. It was on Monday July 15 at about 9:37am the Citizens Community Federal Bank located on Commercial Blvd in the Village of Lake Hallie reported an armed robbery.
