ROOSEVELT COULD SEE SECURITY UPGRADES

The Eau Claire school board is considering over two-million dollars in security upgrades to Roosevelt Elementary.  The board debated the upgrades last night, which include a secured entrance, electrical upgrades, new paving, and new roofing.  The board could vote on the upgrades as soon as September 23rd.

BIG PLANS FOR LITTLE RED

Students will soon be returning to Eau Claire’s Little Red School.  But they won’t be elementary school kids. The Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 434 last night agreed to buy the empty school for a half-million dollars.  The plan is to turn the building into an apprenticeship center.  The Little Red School has been empty for about a decade.

WI POLITICS: “SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT” EXPECTED TODAY

The Republican race to replace Sean Duffy in Congress could soon get its first official candidate.  State Senator Tom Tiffany says he will make a ‘special announcement’ later today.  Tiffany also plans to travel the 7th Congressional District, which covers pretty much all of northwestern Wisconsin, over the next couple of days.  Tiffany’s announcement comes after state Senator Jerry Petrowski said yesterday that he won’t run. There is still no word when the special election to replace Duffy will be.

LA CROSSE WOMAN FACING ARSON CHARGES

A La Crosse woman is looking at charges after police say she tried to set her apartment on fire.  Firefighters found a pile of burning magazines and a rolling pin on top of a hot stove in 46-year-old Rachel Page’s apartment last week.  Police say Page was having problems with her landlord.  Page is facing arson and bail jumping charges, but she was released from jail yesterday on a signature bond.

Today, Governor Evers issued Executive Order # 44, relating to a proclamation that the flag of the United States and the flag of the State of Wisconsin be flown at half-staff in honor of State Day of Service and Remembrance. HOME A TOTAL LOSS AFTER FIRE

A fire in the town of Modena leaves a home a total loss and one occupant with injuries. It was about 8:30 Monday morning when a call came in about a fire at a home on County Road J. When crews arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames and all of the occupant were out and accounted for. AREA FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE BLAZE AT JENNIE-O

At 7:32 am on September 9th 2019, the Barron Maple Grove Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a working structure fire inside the feed mill cooling tower located at the Jennie-O Plant in Barron. First arriving crews reported heavy smoke showing from the west side of the building and requested surrounding fire departments to be paged for additional manpower. REWARD OFFERED IN AVERY CASE

A 100-thousand-dollar reward is being offered on behalf of convicted killer Steven Avery.  Attorney Kathleen Zellner says a concerned citizen has posted the six-figure reward for the arrest and conviction of what they’re claiming to be “the real killer” of Teresa Halbach.  Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey were convicted in 2007 of the 2005 killing of the freelance photographer.  Each was sentenced to life in prison.
