STANLEY SEEKS FIRE CHIEF

The town of Stanley needs a new fire chief. The old chief, Ron Zais, is no longer on the job. Town leaders this week confirmed that Zais is no longer employed. Zais had been on leave since May. He was facing discipline because he didn’t have a licensed medical director for the fire department. That’s a state requirement. Town leaders say Stanley’s fire department was without a director since 2013.

EC VAPE WARNING LIGHTS UP

There is a new vape warning in Eau Claire. Public health managers and school leaders yesterday said high school students need to stay away from dank vapes or other black market THC vape products. The warning comes after an Eau Claire North High School student went to the hospital after vaping one of the products. North High School Principal Cale Bushman says he’s planning ‘information sessions’ to talk to students about the dangers of vaping.

CANCEL CULTURE CITED FOR PROFESSORS DEPARTURE

A UW La Crosse art professor accused of sexual misconduct is blaming cancel culture for his departure from the school. Professor Joel Elgin’s lawyer released an open letter yesterday that also accused UW La Crosse of threatening to take away his sick time if he continued to fight the accusations. POLLS SHOW NO

A majority of voters in Wisconsin continue to say they do not want to see President Trump impeached. The latest Marquette Law School Poll shows 53 percent of voters in the state oppose impeachment. That number jumps to 94 percent when you ask Republicans. The poll says 40 percent of voters do want to see the president impeached. That includes 80 percent of Democrats in the state. Independent voters are split, but more independents say they do not support impeachment.

RUSK CO. SCHOOL SEES CHICKENPOX OUTBREAK

Health officials in northwest Wisconsin say there’s an outbreak of chickenpox at an elementary school.  Five cases of chicken pox have been confirmed at Ladysmith Elementary School in Rusk County.  The county health department is calling it an outbreak today and four of the five cases have occurred in people who have been vaccinated for the virus.  The health department says kids with chickenpox should to stay home until the blisters have healed over.

MULTIPLE-VEHICLE CRASH SHUTS DOWN I 94 IN BOTH DIRECTIONS

A multi-vehicle crash occurred on I-94 near Mile Marker 81 around a bit before 10 Thursday morning involving 3 semi units. The initial crash and several secondary crashes resulted in a full closure of the interstate in both directions. Westbound I-94 was the first to re-open. A re-route of the interstate was initiated and only minor injuries have been reported.

WEATHER A FACTOR IN SCHOOL BUS ACCIDENT

We now have more details about an accident involving a school bus. It was 11:45 Thursday morning when a school bus went into the ditch at 136th Street north of Highway 124 just north of Chippewa Falls, the bus was reported to be on its side.  Approximately 8 young children were reportedly on the bus. No injuries were reported.  Chippewa Yellow Bus has another bus en route to transport children and they are contacting parents.

12TH OWI LEADS TO PRISON

An Appleton man is going to prison in Trempealeau County after pleading no contest to his 12th OWI.  Jerome Pomeroy was arrested in Pigeon Falls last month after being accused of crashing into cars while driving drunk.  He pleaded guilty in the case Wednesday and was sentenced to seven years in prison.
