Head on over to your favorite putt-putt course today for Miniature Golf Day.  It’s believed that mini golf was invented in the late 19th century specifically for women, so they could play golf without having to use a full-sized golf club.  The activity includes windmills, ramps, loop de loops, uneven courses and other obstacles that make for a fun way to score a hole in one.  The holiday is celebrated worldwide.

VAPING UP IN SMOKE

Minors will no longer be allowed to vape in Neenah.  The city council passed an ordinance THIS WEEK prohibiting minors from using vaping products or e-cigarettes.  Officials say vaping is becoming an increasing problem and they want to be proactive.  The ordinance takes effect next month.

A SHORTAGE IS THE PITS!

California olive oil producers say this year’s low harvest is close to catastrophic.  The California Olive Oil Council says olive harvests plummeted 25 percent this year due to a heat wave in February.  The unexpected warm weather triggered olive trees to begin producing fruit early.  Then, freezing temperatures in March shut that process down, leaving many growers without any fruit on trees.  Despite this year’s shortage, olive oil prices are not expected to go up due to bumper crop in

BARRON COUNTY JAIL ESCAPE

9.24.2018: The Sheriffs Department confirms that Strong was taken back into custody.    The Barron County Sheriff’s Department is looking for a man who walked away from the jail. 30 year old Michael Strong of Barronett failed to return to the jail last night after being out on Work Release Huber. Strong was in jail on Methamphetamine charges. If anyone has information about his whereabouts, please contact the Barron County Sheriff’s Department. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

CARDINALS HAVE SOMETHING TO CHIRP ABOUT

The Cardinals have something to CHIRP about. Chippewa Falls Middle School is being named one of the healthiest schools in the country.  The school made the list of just over 460 schools from 26 states prepared by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.  Criteria included serving healthier meals and getting students moving more.  Chippewa Falls Middle School is one of 13 schools across the state receive the honor.

MISSING DUNN CO WOMAN

A former Dunn County woman is missing after sending chilling texts that concerned her family and friends.  Erin Vandewiele moved to Denver in June with Joe Mayer, a man she had been seeing.  Vandeweile hasn’t been seen since July 23rd and had sent messages to a friend indicating she was afraid for her life shortly before she disappeared.  Mayer was arrested on outstanding warrants not related to the case and has been brought back to Wisconsin.

Madison police are warning Green Bay Packers fans to be careful when buying game tickets on the secondary market.  Cops say this past weekend bogus tickets were sold to two separate parties in the East Towne Mall area.  The victims had responded to ads on Craigslist.  Authorities say to avoid being victimized, fans should buy tickets through reputable brokers and use a credit card when making a purchase.
