WI SLIPS A SPOT IN WELL BEING STUDY

A new report says Wisconsin is the 13th-best state for child wellbeing.  According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s annual report, Wisconsin lost a spot from last year when it ranked 12th in child well being.  The report and ranking is based on four categories, economic well being, family and community, health, and education.

AND THE WINNER IS….

CBD HITS K-T SHELVES

Kwik Trip is the latest store in Wisconsin to add CBD to the shelves.  The store announced last week that it will sell lotions, creams, balms, as well as CBD vape pens at its stores across Wisconsin.  CBD has the health benefits of cannabis, but it doesn’t have the THC that makes people high.

SOMETHING’S FISHY….

State regulators are putting out a warning to fishermen after a manure spill killed about a thousand trout in La Crosse County.  It happened June 8th in the town of Bangor.  The Department of Natural Resources says Bostwick Creek was contaminated.  DNR says it is still investigating the particulars.  The state is warning fisherman along Bostwick Creek that the fish they catch may be contaminated as well.

PARDON ME?

Folks wanting a pardon in Wisconsin have a new chance to clear their names.  Governor Evers last week said that he reformed the state’s Pardon Board.  Former Governor Scoot Walker didn’t pardon a single person during his eight years in office.  Governor Evers ran for election last year promising to get the board back to work.  The governor says the board will only consider pardons, and not commuting anyone’s sentence.

FOLLOWING THE STATE BUDGET

All eyes in Wisconsin’s budget debate are shifting to Governor Tony Evers.  The full legislature still has yet to vote on the 40 billion-dollar spending plan, but once they do it will head to the governor’s desk.  The governor has not given any indication if he will sign the plan, veto the entire thing, or just veto parts of the budget.  Republican lawmakers have said for a week or so that it’d be a mistake for the governor to veto the

MARCHING FOR MONEY

The people who want to see state government spend more on public schools say they have about 200 people ready to march to the State Capitol.  Organizers of the March to Madison say they have about 200 people signed-up for the march which starts Thursday.  The idea is to press lawmakers for more money for public schools, particularly Milwaukee Public Schools.  They are upset that Republican lawmakers are only spending a half-billion-dollars more on public schools over the next two

THE OLD FASHIONED A NEW WINNER

A restaurant in Madison is being recognized for having the best cheese curds in Wisconsin.    USA Today ranked The Old Fashioned as the number one contender.  The famous cheese curds are comprised of a house-made Wisconsin beer-batter and are served with dips that include smoked paprika, roasted garlic and buttermilk ranch.  Overall, 20 restaurants were nominated for having the best cheese curds around the state, but readers voted The Old Fashioned as number one.

CAMPUS LOOKS CLOSER AT PRE-COLLEGE PROGRAM SAFETY

 UW-Madison’s pre-college programs are being revamped to address the issue of sexual assault.  The move comes after an alleged sexual assault in 2017 and a lawsuit on how the school handled it.  UW-Madison leadership recommended that the school’s Business Emerging Leaders program be suspended unless changes were made.  So, some of the changes include a centralized office and new policies that were placed under effect as of May 1st.  The UW-Madison’s Office of Precollege and Youth Program Compliance is directed

ROAD DAMAGED IN SEMI-TURNOVER

On Saturday, June 15, at approximately 4:42 am, an eastbound semi tractor trailer driven by 31 year old Singh Mangat overturned on I94 near Milepost 28. There was also a 54 year old passenger in the semi. The vehicle came to rest in lane 2 (the right lane) of the eastbound lanes.Traffic was able to continue to pass by the scene in lane 1.
