FAMILY OFFERING REWARD IN CASE OF MAN FOUND DEAD

The family of a Gilmanton man who died back in November is offering a reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.  Toby Cleasby was last seen leaving his house on November 5th and his dead body was found in an Eau Claire home about a month later.  Police say Cleasby’s death doesn’t seem suspicious but his family thinks he may have been murdered.  The family is offering ten-thousand dollars for any information that leads to an arrest

SUV FIRE DELAYS TRAFFIC

No one is hurt after an SUV caught fire in Clear Creek.  The Eau Claire Sheriff’s Office says the fire started yesterday afternoon near the intersection of County Highway D and Williams Road and that it caused a brief traffic delay.  The driver was able to get out without being injured but they were ticketed for not having a valid driver’s license.

FIRE ON THE WATER

A boat is destroyed after a fire in Northwoods.  Pine Lake Fire and Rescue says three people were on the boat when it caught fire on Lake George near Rhinelander yesterday but they were able to get safely to the dock.  The boat had to be taken out of the water after the fire was extinguished so that no debris got into the water.  It’s unclear how the fire started.

RASTAFARIAN CHURCH HEADING FROM PEW TO THE BENCH

The founder of a Rastafarian church in Madison accused of being a front for drug dealing says the claims are a lie.  Police raided the church last week and search warrant documents claim marijuana had been sold at the church for several months.  Court records also say an undercover informant bought drugs from the church.  The church founder says church members can’t purchase cannabis under any circumstance.  He and another church official have a court hearing scheduled for Thursday.

CHEERING ON THE “UDDER” TEAM

This one is sure to get some love on the internet.  Appleton’s minor league baseball team is changing its name from the Timber Rattlers to the Udder Tuggers, at least for one night.  The idea is to celebrate Dairy Month on June 20th.  There are special cow themed jerseys for sale.  You can find them all at the Timber Rattler’s website.

SCHOOL BOARD GOES BACK TO THE RE-DRAWING BOARD

Eau Claire schools will be keeping their enrollment map, at least for a little while longer.  The city’s school board last night voted to do some more work on a planned boundary shift.  Superintendent Mary Ann Hardebeck says some people in the district are fighting the change.  The school board wants to know how students will be impacted if they are sent to new schools to ‘balance’ enrollment in the district.

MAN FACING CHARGES AFTER RAMMING SQUAD CAR

The sheriff in Pierce County says a man was likely drunk when he rammed his car into a deputy’s squad car.  It happened Sunday night in the town of Ellsworth.  Deputies were called-out for a domestic violence call, that’s when they say 39-year-old Luke Anderson jumped into his car, and took aim at the deputy.  The crash was serious enough to send Anderson’s car into a ditch.  He was taken to the hospital, he’ll face charges when he’s released.

The city of Eau Claire wants to know what people don’t like about parking downtown.  The city is asking people about downtown parking, as well as the parking options in Randall Park, and the city’s Third Ward.  It’s all part of the annual parking survey.  If you have thoughts, you can share them through June 10th.

GAX TAX ON FUMES

Governor Tony Evers is not saying how, or if, he will build new roads in the state without a gas tax increase.  The governor yesterday didn’t respond to questions about Republican resistance to his proposed eight-cent-per-gallon tax hike.  All Evers would say is that Republicans cannot magically improve roads without new money.

GREEN FOLLOWS GREEN: ILLINOI$ EXPECT$ MILLION$ AFTER LEGALIZATION

One Wisconsin lawmaker says the state is going to miss out on the next tourism boom.  Madison Democratic state Rep. Melissa Sargent yesterday said Illinois will capture millions of dollars from tourists with its new legalized marijuana.  Sargent says she’s heard from people in Wisconsin who plan to cross the border once Illinois’ new pot law takes effect next year.  Sargent is one of many Wisconsin Democrats who want to legalize marijuana in the state.
