Wisconsin’s Republican U.S. Senator and three of the state’s four Republican Congressman are on the record asking for a review of Roe vs. Wade. Senator Ron Johnson and Congressman Jim Sensenbrenner, Bryan Steil, and Glenn Grothman yesterday signed a letter along with about 200 other Republicans asking the Supreme Court reconsider the case that has made the law for abortions in this country for over 45 years. CURTAIN CLOSES WHILE THEATER REPAIRS

Movie fans in downtown Eau Claire will have one less place to catch a flick for a little while. Micon Cinemas yesterday said on Facebook that it is closing its downtown theater because of problems with their heating system. Micon says there are plans to re-open the theater, though they are not saying when.

FLU TICKS UP IN WI CHILDREN

A lot more children are sick with the flu this flu season. The CDC this week moved Wisconsin to a ‘high flu activity’ state. Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee says that matches what they are seeing. Doctors say they saw 829 flu cases in December, including 46 kids who were hospitalized. That compares to just nine flu cases in December of 2018. Doctors say there is still time to get a flu shot and help your kids not get sick this flu season.

DEADLY HEAD ON COLLISION IN TAYLOR CO.

UPDATE 1.17.2020: The driver of the SUV who died as a result of the head on vehicle accident on January 2nd is identified as 45 year old Chad B. Olson of Rib Lake Wi. The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office investigation into what caused Olson to drift into the opposite lane of traffic and into path of a semi-truck has been concluded.  The result of the investigation  indicates that Olson was using his cell phone at the time of the accident. A tavern stabbing leaves one injured. Just before 7:30 on Wednesday morning, Taylor County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a stabbing at the Birds’ Nest Tavern located in the Village Of RibLake, Taylor County. The caller reported that an injured man was still there but the suspect had left the scene. Upon the Deputy’s arrival he observed blood on the street and at the entrance of the tavern. 7TH OWI ARREST LEADS TO JAIL FOR HERTEL MAN

New Years saw arrests in Barron County. Overall, 7 OWI arrests were recorded in the twelve hours between 6pm and 6am on New Years Day.  Barron County had 3, State Patrol saw 1, and repors from the Cumberland PD included 1. The Police Department in Rice Lake reported 2.  Based on the jail roster that only one still in custody is 72 year old Ronald Hart from Hertel.  He is being held on OWI-7th Offense, Bail Jumping and a Probation Violation.

Frankie is first! Catie Hagedorn of Eau Claire is the mother of the first baby born at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire in 2020. Hagedorn’s daughter, Frances (Frankie) Rachel Hagedorn, was born at 3:05 p.m. on Jan. 1.             Hagedorn, who works as a nurse at Mayo Clinic Health System in Bloomer, had planned Frankie’s birth with her wife, Rachel Hagedorn. SUV FALLS THROUGH ICE

No one is hurt after an SUV fell through ice on the Wisconsin River in Wausau.  Reports say the SUV fell through while a man was ice fishing Wednesday afternoon.  Police say the SUV will stay there until it’s safer to remove.
