BUDGETS BOTH NUDGE PROPERTY TAXES UP

It doesn’t matter which budget Wisconsin ends-up with, a new report says property taxes in the state won’t change.  The Legislative Fiscal Bureau yesterday reported that property taxes in the state will increase slightly under both spending plans.  The LFB says taxes on an average 167-thousand-dollar home would jump about 50-dollars a year under both budgets.  The projections have homeowners paying almost three-thousand-dollars in property taxes on that hypothetical home.

ONE STEP CLOSER FOR DYSLEXIA HANDBOOKS

A plan that’d have the state create a dyslexia handbook for schools is a step closer to becoming law.  The state Assembly yesterday approved a proposal to have the state’s Department of Public Instruction create a handbook for schools to help diagnose dyslexia and other reading problems in students.  Many schools already work with kids who have reading problems.  This new plan would require that all schools have a strategy.

PEEK AT THE PACK

Packer fans will have plenty of chances to see the team play before the first game of the year.  The team released its training camp schedule yesterday, there are 16 public practices.  Almost all of the practices will start at 10:30 in the morning.  The public parts of training camp will start July 25th and run through August 19th.

MISSING CHILD ON WI. RIVER NOW RECOVERY EFFORT

UPDATE: It is now a recovery effort in Adams County.  The sheriff yesterday said they are looking for the body of a missing child who slipped below the water on the Wisconsin River near the Dells on Tuesday.  Sheriff Brent York says teams searched for the child for two days.  Crews will be back out on the river today, they’re bringing new sonar equipment to help in their search.  6.19.2019: Search crews are expected to be back out on the Wisconsin River to look

DEADLY DAY FOR WI OFFICERS

Police officers across southeast Wisconsin are trying to come to grips with the deaths of two off-duty officers in one day.  Milwaukee Police Officer Kou Her died in a crash early yesterday morning as he was headed home from his shift.  Racine Police Officer John Hetland died while trying to stop an armed robbery at a local bar.  Police say the two deaths, so close together are unsettling for everyone who wears a badge.  Her is the third Milwaukee police officer to

MORE INFORMATION RELEASED IN OFFICER INVOLVED DEATH

We know know more about an officer involved death in Arpin that happened earlier this month. Wood County Sheriff Deputies responded to a welfare check at a residence on State Highway 186 in Arpin. While conducting an evaluation of the subject, the subject ran back into the residence and obtained a knife. CHILD DIES AFTER SHOOTING, FAMILY SAYS ACCIDENTAL

A five-year-old is dead after being shot in Kenosha.  Police say the child was dropped off at Froedtert South Hospital yesterday afternoon after being shot in the two-thousand block of 60th Street.  The child’s grandfather says one of his son’s accidentally shot him.  Both of his sons left the boy at the hospital because he says they were afraid.  They’re currently being interviewed by police.

DEER THROUGH WINDSHIELD CAUSES INJURY FOR SEMI DRIVER

A semi truck driver is seriously hurt after a deer flew through his windshield in Buffalo County.  The sheriff’s office says an SUV was southbound on Highway 37 near Alma last Saturday afternoon when it hit a deer, causing it to be thrown through the nearby semi’s windshield driven by Tony McCray.  McCray was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.  He was the only person hurt in the crash.

FIGHTS AND FLEEING LEAD TO CHARGES

A Rice Lake man is facing charges after reportedly fighting with a woman, punching a teenager in the face, and pushing another teen to the ground.  Police say Matthew Peterson was fighting with the woman on Sunday when the two teens tried to intervene but were attacked.  Peterson ran from police but was caught and charged with child abuse.  He’s currently free on five-thousand dollars bond.

ROLL OPEN YOUR EYES FOR A LOCAL ROCK

A treasure hunt is underway in Eau Claire.  The Rock Hunt got underway yesterday where a rock was hidden somewhere on public property in the city and someone needs to find it.  Whoever finds the rock will win 500 dollars.  The hunt promotes this weekend’s Rock the Riverfront event at Phoenix Park.  Hints as to where the rock is hidden are posted at Rock the Riverfront sponsor locations.
