FAUX AU? FAKE GOLD COIN LEADS TO PROBATION

A Chippewa Falls man is avoiding jail after being convicted of using a fake gold coin.  Reports say Alex Kramer pleaded no contest to one count of forgery and three unrelated counts in Eau Claire County earlier this week.  Kramer was then sentenced to three years on probation.  He’s accused of trying to use the fake coin at a Dollar General last month.

2020 BRINGS NEW VISION FOR CV EYE CLINIC

The Chippewa Valley Eye Clinic will be rebuilt and expanded.  The clinic was recently destroyed by a fire and it was demolished last week.  Tuesday night, the city council approved a request to rebuild and expand the clinic.

Underground parking in Eau Claire is another step closer to becoming a reality.  The city council approved an amendment last night that changes a downtown tax increment financing district.  This clears up about three-million dollars for construction.

The Eau Claire city council approves a new commission for developing affordable housing.  The Housing Opportunity Commission will be made up of eleven members who will look to expand housing diversity and work on affordable housing policies.

WI CORONAVIRUS STATUS UPDATED DAILY

The state of Wisconsin says it’s tested seven people for possible coronavirus cases. ne of the people tested for the coronavirus does not have it. They are waiting on results for six others. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services yesterday said seven people in the state have been tested for the virus. There is no information about who they are or where they live. The state plans to update its coronavirus activity each afternoon.

Harley Davidson managers say 2020 will be a pivotal year. The company yesterday said sales fell last year, down about five percent in the U.S. Harley did see profits go-up. CEO Matt Levatich said Harley Davidson is looking to smaller, electric bikes and growth in overseas markets as the path forward.

The city of Eau Claire is going to help build the new Sonnentag Center. The city council last night signed a letter promising to pay as much as eight-and-a-half million-dollars for the new events center. The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire will pay for most of the costs. Eau Claire is also offering TIF district financing. Planners hope to start work on the new center this summer. MOM FACING CHARGES AFTER TAKING SON OUT OF STATE

A western Wisconsin mom is facing charges after police say she took her one-year-old son and ran, rather than turn him over to child welfare officials. Trempealeau County prosecutors yesterday filed interfering with child custody charges against 34-year-old Jessica Cleasby and her brother. Police say Cleasby was supposed to turn her son over to the county last Friday. Instead, officers say she tried to flee to Wyoming. Police in North Dakota arrested her on Sunday.
