ST. CROIX CO. MAN GETS NEW TRIAL

A St. Croix County man convicted of shooting his son last year is getting a new trial.  A judge yesterday ordered prosecutors to try and make their case against Kayle Fleischauer once again.  There are questions about juror misconduct in his original trial.  Police say Fleischauer was drunk and shot his son in April of 2018.  Fleischauer has said all along his son accidentally shot himself.  The new trial is set for February.

EAU CLAIRE LOOKING TO ADD CROSSING GUARDS

It’s not just the kids in Eau Claire who are getting ready to go back to school.  School leaders are finalizing their plans and procedures for the new school year as well.   Eau Claire Superintendent Mary Ann Hardebeck is making a plea for a few more crossing guards this year.  Hardebeck says the more guards the better.  She says Eau Claire schools need at least four more guards to start the year.

SAND MINE CLOSES DOORS

About 40 people in Whitehall are out of a job as another western Wisconsin frac sand mine is closing its doors.  Hi-Crush told the state of Wisconsin recently that it is closing the mine in Whitehall.  Between 35 and 40 people will lose their jobs.  Hi-Crush says the ‘decreased profitability in shipping sand’ is to blame for the mine’s closing.

WI CLIFF NOTES: GOVERNOR EVERS ON TRADE; DAIRY INDUSTRY DIPS

Wisconsin’s governor says farmers in the state are already dealing with low prices and bad weather.  They don’t need a trade war to make things worse.  Governor Tony Evers yesterday wrote a letter to President Trump asking him to end the trade uncertainty that is hurting farmers in the state.  The governor says farmers in Wisconsin want trade not aid, and need healthy trade agreements to make that happen.  On that note, cheesemakers in Wisconsin don’t expect things to get better anytime soon.  The

WAUSAU WOMAN PLEADS NOT GUILTY TO EMBEZZLEMENT

A Wausau woman is pleading not guilty to embezzling money from her job.  Kristin Lapree is accused of stealing nearly half-a-million-dollars from Rettler Corporation.  She was the business manager at Rettler for more than six years.  She is accused of impersonating the company’s owner and forging checks.

The new Miss Black USA hails from Madison.  Former Miss Black Wisconsin Tekema Balentine took the title home from the competition in Washington, DC this weekend.  In addition to the crown, Balentine won scholarship money.   She is currently pursuing a nursing degree at Madison College and is a coach for Madison East track and field.

The City of Eau Claire is another step closer to redeveloping Boyd Park.  The Boyd Park Plus project announced yesterday it’s surpassed its ten-thousand dollar fundraising goal for the first phase of the project.  The plan is to use that money to hire a firm to design a plan for the park.  The project committee will hold a public input session this Sunday ON TO THE NEXT STEP! It was another winning weekend in Wisconsin with a $1,000,000 Powerball winner. It was the Kwik Trip (3130 State Road) in La Crosse sold the $1 Million winning ticket which matched 5 out of 5 numbers but not the Powerball.
