WI ABSENTEE BALLOTS CLIMB

The Wisconsin Elections Commission says more than one-million absentee ballot applications have been requested for Tuesday’s elections and presidential primary.  The commission today says nearly 390-thousand completed ballots have been returned.  But there are still many requests that municipal clerks have not yet entered into the state system.   Information about voting absentee and polling places is posted HERE ON THE WISCONSIN VOTING WEBSITE.

WI SETTING UP VOLUNTARY ISOLATION CENTERS

Local health departments and first responders in Northeast Wisconsin are setting up voluntary isolation centers to respond to the COVID-19 crisis.  Officials say the move is to ease the strain on hospitals and make sure there are enough beds for people who need them when the pandemic peaks.  New isolation centers opened today in Madison and Milwaukee with a center in Green Bay already housing some people.  Oshkosh officials are also looking to see if they might create an isolation center.

FILL UP ON WI RESTAURANT DETAILS

The Wisconsin Restaurant Association is releasing an online database of open and closed restaurants around the state. The association created an online resource of over one-thousand restaurants to help people find places to eat and support local business amid the coronavirus pandemic. MARSY’S LAW TO APPEAR ON PRIMARY BALLOT

LOCAL CORONAVIRUS CASES TREND UP

Chippewa County has a new case of the coronavirus. The state’s Department of Health Services confirmed a new case in the county yesterday. That brings the total to eight people sick in Chippewa County, 11 people sick in Eau Claire County, and three people sick in Dunn County. GOV. EVERS REQUESTS FEDERAL DISASTER DECELERATION

Wisconsin’s governor is officially asking for federal help in dealing with the coronavirus. Governor Tony Evers yesterday asked for a federal disaster declaration. That would open-up more opportunities for more federal money to come into the state. The governor has declared a state-based public health emergency. Western Wisconsin’s congressman says people should start to get their stimulus checks soon. Congressman Ron Kind yesterday said he’s not sure just when people can expect their 12-hundred dollars, or when families can expect their checks. Hospitals across Wisconsin are getting thousands of masks, face shields, gowns, and gloves. Governor Evers’ office yesterday said a shipment of protective healthcare gear arrived from the federal government. The gear all comes from the Strategic National Stockpile. The governor’s office says the gear will fill the needs at many hospitals and treatment centers.
