WI TESTING CONTINUES, POSITIVE TEST RATE DIPS

The Wisconsin National Guard is responsible for a little less than a third of the state’s coronavirus tests. The Guard on Tuesday said it has collected over 90 thousand samples so far. Wisconsin has tested just under 300 thousand people overall. Commanders say 25 National Guard teams continue to perform tests around the state. Nearly 600 guardsmen have been called-up to help with the coronavirus effort. MORE CHARGES ANNOUNCED

 Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is charging all four former Minneapolis police officers involved in the George Floyd case.  Former police officers Tou Thao , Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane are charged with felony aiding and abetting second-degree murder. Ellison is also upgrading the charge against Derek Chauvin to second-murder two instead of third-degree murder.  To prove that charge prosecutors will have to show that Chauvin intended for Floyd to die. SHERIFF’S OFFICE LOOKING FOR TIPS AFTER MEMORIAL DAMAGE

Sawyer County authorities responded to an incident about 10:30 Tuesday night and are now seeking any tips that the public may have about a fire. Sawyer County Deputies were dispatched to a fire complaint in the Village of Couderay. While responding, they were informed that the Memorial for Sawyer County Deputy Michael Villiard had been lit on fire. LOCAL PROTEST PLANNED

A protest is planned in Menomonie today in opposition to the death of George Floyd. Organizers are asking people to gather on the corner of Broadway and Main downtown at 5 p.m. Chief of Police Eric Atkinson said officers plan to attend the protest to show support and ensure safety.

POLICE CONTINUE SEARCH IN DRUG OVERDOSE DEATH

Police are searching for another person charged in connection to the death of a Lake Holcombe woman last year. Investigators said Zach Dietrich was charged with reckless homicide in the drug overdose of Carissa Kasmeirski in March 2019. Dietrich told investigators he bought methamphetamine and used it with Kasmeirski the day she died. Another woman was charged last month for selling the drugs to Dietrich.

SQUAD CAR REAR ENDED ON HWY 53

An Altoona police officer is out of the hospital today after his squad car was rear-ended on Highway 53. Police said it happened last night near the Highway 53 bypass when driver Laurie Reardon drove over multiple traffic cones and nearly hit several squad cars before crashing into one.  Reardon was arrested on O-W-I charges.

UW SYSTEM MAKES CUTS

The University of Wisconsin System is reducing costs and cutting some programs after the COVID-19 pandemic and a shrinking budget presented significant financial challenges. The Board of Regents says the new Blueprint plan will consolidate I.T. services, create an online learning model, and reallocate resources. Some professors think the plan will work in the opposite way, and outsourcing education will only hurt the university’s budget and students.
