It’s that time of year. Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services is reporting the state’s first human case of West Nile. DHS says the person is from northeast Wisconsin, but they are not getting any more specific than that. Human West Nile cases tend to peak in August and September as more people head outside. Last year, 33 people were confirmed sick with West Nile in Wisconsin.

Katrina Shankland yesterday introduced a plan that would spend two-million on CWD collection, and another two-million-dollars on CWD research. Shankland says CWD is a threat to Wisconsin’s deer population, and she wants to get a handle on the disease before it’s too late.

Attorney General Josh Kaul yesterday rejected the settlement offer from Purdue Pharma. At least twenty other states are accepting the offer. Kaul said he wants justice, and doesn’t think the settlement offer will bring that. The rejected settlement is part of the on-going battle between Kaul and lawmakers over a new law that requires him to get permission before settling lawsuits.

The wall is a three-quarters-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. The names of all 58-thousand-people who served and died are inscribed on the wall, including many from Manitowoc County.
