Viterbo University is donating supplies from its nursing program to help healthcare workers aiding coronavirus relief efforts. The school yesterday donated over 20-thousand items from the program to Mayo Clinic in La Crosse. The school donated 13-thousand gloves and seven-thousand cotton swabs.

An Eau Claire mom is gaining traction with an idea to hang butterflies in some residents’ windows. Renee Sommer started the ‘Eau Claire Window Scavenger Hunt’ Facebook group to encourage residents to hang colorful, printed butterflies in their windows. More people are getting sick with the coronavirus in the Chippewa Valley, which we expected to see, but they remain lower than other parts of our state and the efforts to combat the spread with #safterathome continues. Leinenkugel is stepping-up to fill the country’s hand sanitizer shortage. The brewery this week donated 165 barrels of bulk beer to the Chippewa River Distillery to be turned into hand sanitizer. The coronavirus has stores across the country looking for sanitizer. A number of breweries and distilleries in the U.S. are turning their alcohol into sanitizer.

TOP COMMANDER OUT OF JOB

Another top commander at the Wisconsin National Guard is out of a job. The state’s adjutant general yesterday fired Colonel James Locke from his post at the Milwaukee-based 128th Air Refueling Wing. General Paul Knapp says he lost confidence in Locke’s ability to command, partially because of misconduct allegations. Locke is the latest commander to be replaced after an investigation into sexual misconduct claims showed that Wisconsin Guard commanders swept some allegations under the rug.

LOAN BREAK DURING OUTBREAK

Wisconsin’s attorney general wants the federal government to help people who owe on their student loans during the coronavirus outbreak. A-G Josh Kaul yesterday joined 26 other A-G’s in asking the federal government to stop student loan collections, automatically enter people into forbearance, and extend other relief programs for people who are having a tough time paying the loans. EVERS CALLS FOR HEALTHCARE GEAR

Masks, gloves, respirators, coveralls, face shields, and foot coverings are all on Wisconsin’s must-have list. Governor Evers yesterday put out the call for protective healthcare gear. He says the state is looking for people to donate or sell large stockpiles of whatever they have. All of the items are in short supply at hospitals across the state because of the coronavirus outbreak.

CASES JUMP, #SAFERATHOME EXPLAINED

There are 100 new coronavirus cases confirmed in Wisconsin today.  The Department of Health Services says 707 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the state.  Eight people have died from the virus.  Milwaukee County has the most with 347 confirmed cases and five deaths.  Dane County has 114 cases and one death followed by Waukesha County with 56 cases and Washington County with 25. RIVER READINGS CREEP UP

Forecasted rain and runoff in the upper Chippewa River watershed is likely to result in increased levels on the Chippewa River in Eau Claire. HALLELUJAH! KROEZE TO THE RESCUE

A local musician is hosting two Facebook Live concerts this weekend. Chris Kroeze isn’t able to play in front of crowds because of the response to coronavirus in the state. Kroeze says regardless, he hopes Western Wisconsin will tune in, relax, post song suggestions in the comments and enjoy. He plans to start his concerts at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday night on his Facebook page. Kroeze is a country, classic rock artist and a native to Barron, Wisconsin.
