ROLLOVER CRASH KILLS ONE

The man killed in a rollover accident near St. Croix is identified.  The Polk County Sheriff’s office yesterday said 37-year-old Robert Johnson crashed his vehicle near the intersection of Highway 35 and 160th Street Wednesday after an officer attempted to pull him over. The officer said he discontinued the pursuit after the driver failed to yield, and later received a report of a rollover crash.  Officers identified the car as the vehicle from before.  The crash is still under investigation.

A new study says cats can get coronavirus and they could also infect other cats. The University of Wisconsin-Madison study published yesterday in the New England Journal of Medicine said scientists in the U.S. and Japan ran tests that showed cats can contract the virus that causes COVID-19 from an infected human patient.  Researchers said people with COVID-19 symptoms worried about spreading it to their friends and family members should also worry about spreading it to their pet cats.  They should

The gavel has dropped and now a lot of people are wondering “Now what?” The Wisconsin Supreme Court says it hopes lawmakers and Governor Tony Evers’ administration can come to terms on a plan to reopen the state. TAVERN LEAGUE URGES BARS TO CRACK OPEN

The Tavern League of Wisconsin is telling bar owners not to wait to reopen. The League took to social media yesterday to tell bars to ‘open immediately.’ Some bars took that advice, and they opened their doors within minutes of seeing the ruling from the Wisconsin Supreme Court. More bars are expected to reopen today.

MORE CORONAVIRUS TESTING LEADS TO MORE POSITIVE CASES

As more people get tested for the coronavirus in Wisconsin, more people are testing positive. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said positive test numbers jumped by about 100. DHS reported 291 new cases yesterday. The uptick comes as more and more people are tested for the virus. Another four-thousand-plus people in the state tested negative.

EC SCHOOL BOARD REVIEWS APPLICATIONS

Eau Claire’s school board will have a new member next week. The district yesterday said 13 people have applied to replace Board Member Laurie Klinkhammer. The school board is reviewing those applications and will pick Klinkhammer’s replacement next Monday. After that, the school board will start the process of replacing out-going board member Eric Torres.

PARENTS GET POP QUIZ

A new survey shows most parents in Wisconsin think their kids are learning something during the coronavirus outbreak. The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty released its survey this week that shows most parents, 80-percent, are satisfied that their kids are learning while schools are shut down.
