Eau Claire, Parks, Recreation, and Forestry is participating in the national celebration of July is Parks and Recreation Month. EC STABBING LEADS TO PROBATION

A Chippewa Falls woman who stabbed someone during a fight is getting four years of probation. Court records show Taylor Simpson was sentenced this week in Eau Claire County. She pleaded no contest to aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon for the stabbing at an Eau Claire hotel.

CAUSE OF FIRE STILL UNKNOWN

We now know more about a fire at a local business. One person is in the hospital after a fire at a salvage yard. The Township Fire Department said a fire at Randy’s Auto Sales and Salvage burned for several hours yesterday before they could put it out. Firefighters said they had a hard time getting into the building because of falling debris. They still don’t know what caused it.

WESTERN DAIRYLAND REACHING OUT TO HOMELESS

Western Dairyland is planning an outreach day to help the homeless. The Western Dairyland Economic Opportunity Council is conducting its annual homeless count overnight on July 27th. Communications Director Dale Karls said the point is not just to count how many people are impacted by homelessness, but to help them enroll in programs that help them find housing. Karls said they’ll be collecting data for five days, following social distancing guidelines.

A LOOK AT WI CORONAVIRUS COUNTS

About 93-percent of the people in Wisconsin’s latest round of coronavirus tests came back negative. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported just over a thousand positive tests and just over 14-thousand negative tests. That negative test number set a record for the second straight day. Hospitalizations increased as well. FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS PLANNED FOR SEPTEMBER

There will be high school football this year in Wisconsin, it will just start a little later. The WIAA yesterday voted to delay the start of football, boys’ soccer, and volleyball by a month til September 7th. The WIAA board says those are ‘high risk sports’ when it comes to the coronavirus. ‘Low risk sports’ like golf, swimming, cross country and tennis are being pushed back by a week.

GOV. EVERS RESISTS FEDERAL AGENTS COMING TO MILWAUKEE

Wisconsin’s governor is being very clear, he hasn’t asked for and doesn’t want more federal agents coming into the state. The governor yesterday said he sent President Trump a letter explaining that. Milwaukee is on the list of cities where President Trump is sending agents. The President says there is a need to stop the bloodshed in Milwaukee. LARGE DRUG BUST LEADS TO PRISON

The man found with 67-pounds of cocaine in the back of a U-Haul in April of last year is heading to prison. A judge yesterday sentenced Samuel Serrano to nine years in prison. Investigators say the bust, which was made at the Menards distribution center, was the largest drug bust in Eau Claire County history. Serrano pleaded no contest to the charges.

COUNTY APPROVES FURLOUGH DAYS

Just about everyone who works for Eau Claire, except the sheriff’s office and 911, is taking an unpaid day off today. County supervisors last night approved a furlough plan that will essentially shutdown county government one day a month until the end of the year. Today is the first furlough day. Supervisor Colleen Bates says the furloughs will help the county overcome what is expected to be a million-dollar-plus deficit because of the coronavirus.
