LAWMAKERS LOOK TO CRACKDOWN ON DRUNK DRIVERS

Lawmakers in Madison are looking to get tougher on some drunk drivers in the state. The state Senate yesterday approved a plan to require anyone who kills someone in a drunk driving crash spend at least five years in prison. Senators also approved a mandatory minimum sentence for someone’s fifth or sixth OWI. Those drivers will now have to spend at least a year-and-a-half behind bars.

Governor Tony Evers says the Senate vote against his ag secretary is B.S. The governor was on the Senate floor for the vote not to confirm Brad Pfaff as the head of the DATCP. Republican senators made it clear for weeks that they would not confirm Pfaff, but the governor pushed for a vote anyway.  A Ripon teen considered endangered is found safe in Arizona.  Cassandra Garza was located at a Goodwill store in Tucson today.  The man she had been traveling with was arrested this morning.  Talin Ross is charged in Green Lake County with sexual assault of a child under the age of 16.

Attorney General Josh Kaul today announced that at Drug Take Back Day, held on October 26th, Wisconsin had a total collection of 60,472 lbs. DRUNK DRIVER WHO HIT SCHOOL BUS SENTENCED

A truck driver convicted of hitting a school bus while driving drunk in Columbia County will go to prison for 20 years.  Wayne Murphy was found guilty of 30 counts including causing great bodily harm and reckless driving following the 2018 crash and was sentenced on Monday.  The judge in the case claimed the crash was not an accident.

MAN FACES CHARGES AFTER FIRST DATE ASSAULT

An Eau Claire man is accused of raping a woman on their first date.  Reports say Scott Edgar admitted to police he has high-functioning autism and went too far with the victim even though she told him no during the attack on Sunday.  Edgar is also accused of biting the victim multiple times.  He’s charged with sexual assault.

POLICE ASK FOR PUBLIC’S HELP IN FINDING THIEF

Update! An honest resident called himself in last night. He confirmed he was the individual in the photos (see below) but insisted he did not commit the thefts. Officers investigated and did not find any evidence the individual pictured was responsible for the thefts. So…. The search continues. If you have any information you are asked to take that to authorities. Police are on the lookout for someone who’s been stealing decorative lights from a church in Eau Claire.

SNOW REMOVAL COSTS PILE UP

The folks in charge of the roads in Eau Claire County are hoping it doesn’t snow too much before the end of the year. The county’s highway budget for snow removal is still reeling from last February’s heavy snow. County Highway Commissioner Jon Johnson says they started 2019 with over a million-dollars set aside for snow removal. He figures they have about 200-thousand-dollars left. Johnson says the county usually spends about 160-thousand-dollars a month during the winter, so he’s hoping

People who want to serve on the Eau Claire school board could get their chance. The district last night agreed to start accepting applications for their open board seat on Thursday. Folks have until Thanksgiving to get an application in. The school board is looking to fill Joe Luginbill’s now-empty seat.
