The president of Regis Catholic Schools in Eau Claire is retiring.  The school recently announced Mark Gobler will be stepping down on June 30th, 2020.  RCS says Gobler made the announcement early so they would have time to find a replacement.  He’s been president since 2013.

CHIPPEWA CHECKS ON BAD CHECKS

An Eau Claire-area man already accused of writing bad checks is charged with writing more bad checks.  Ryan Sturz was charged with multiple felonies in Chippewa County this week after being accused of stealing nearly 140-thousand dollars worth of items from area businesses.  Sturz was previously charged in Eau Claire County with writing bad checks to purchase more than 87-thousand dollars in items from Eau Claire stores.

KITTENS FOUND AFTER TREE FALLS

Over half a dozen kittens are found living in a dead tree in Eau Claire County.  Reports say a 200-year-old oak tree was cut down this week and seven cats were found inside after it fell.  Workers say they’re only a few weeks old.  They’ve since been turned over to the Humane Association.C

WOMAN FACING ANIMAL ABUSE CHARGES

Prosecutors in Dunn County are looking at the case against a woman from Boyceville who police say starved her dog. Boyceville Police arrested Anne Iehl on Monday. ASSEMBLY OBJECTS TO OWI CHANGES

Drunk drivers in Wisconsin could be catching another break. Democrats in the state Assembly yesterday objected to a plan that would add mandatory minimum sentences for people who kill someone in an OWI wreck, and for people convicted of their fifth or sixth drunk driving case. The Wisconsin Senate approved the idea without problems last week.

TAKE A SIDE! PARKING RULES DEFINED IN EAU CLAIRE

There is another change to where you can, and more specifically cannot, park in Eau Claire. The city council last night tweaked the rules to make it clear that you cannot park on the restricted side of the street. City Engineer Dave Solberg says there’s been some confusion about parking during snow storms. He says the rules should be clear now, as you can only park one side of the street from now until May 1st.

DEAN DECISION AFFECTS DAIRYLAND

Lawmakers in Madison want to call the tree at the statehouse a Christmas tree. The state Assembly yesterday voted 64-30 to officially recognize the state’s tree as a Christmas tree, not a holiday tree as Governor Evers calls it. Four Democrats joined every single Republican in the state in voting for the resolution.

Add lobbyist to Sean Duffy’s resume. The former northwoods congressman yesterday announced that he is joining the Washington D.C. lobbying firm The BGR Group. Duffy left Congress earlier this year to spend more time with his wife and their ninth child. Duffy is also a paid political contributor for CNN.

PUBLIC INVITED TO LOCAL VETERANS FUNERAL

A veterans organization in northern Wisconsin hopes the community steps up to attend the funeral of a serviceman with no family.  The Barren County Veteran’s Service office says Paul Shockley Junior passed away last week and has no family and just a couple of friends.  The Veterans’ Service Office is hoping the public turns out to the Skinner Funeral Home in Cumberland on November 15th for a military ceremony prior to burial.
