A semi-trailer carrying powdered cheese goes up in flames. The Bloomer Fire Department said they responded to a call last night on Highway 53 to find the trailer on fire. Firefighters said the trailer is a total loss.

TURTLE SEASON SPEEDS UP

It’s turtle season. A biologist with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Turtle Conservation Program says to watch out for turtles crossing the road as warmer weather brings them out of their nests. He says it’s okay to help the turtle and if it’s safe to pull over, pick up the turtle and take it in the direction it’s headed. He says to watch out for snapping turtles who can have a powerful bite.

LOCAL PROTESTS PEACEFUL

The latest protest in the Chippewa Valley saw hundreds of people turn out in Menomonie. The crowd gathered on the corner of Main St. and Broadway to demand justice. Organizers say it is important for smaller, mostly white communities to show solidarity with the protests across the country. Police say there were no problems with the protest. WI TESTING CONTINUES, POSITIVE TEST RATE DIPS

The Wisconsin National Guard is responsible for a little less than a third of the state’s coronavirus tests. The Guard on Tuesday said it has collected over 90 thousand samples so far. Wisconsin has tested just under 300 thousand people overall. Commanders say 25 National Guard teams continue to perform tests around the state. Nearly 600 guardsmen have been called-up to help with the coronavirus effort. MORE CHARGES ANNOUNCED

 Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison is charging all four former Minneapolis police officers involved in the George Floyd case.  Former police officers Tou Thao , Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane are charged with felony aiding and abetting second-degree murder. Ellison is also upgrading the charge against Derek Chauvin to second-murder two instead of third-degree murder.  To prove that charge prosecutors will have to show that Chauvin intended for Floyd to die. SHERIFF’S OFFICE LOOKING FOR TIPS AFTER MEMORIAL DAMAGE

Sawyer County authorities responded to an incident about 10:30 Tuesday night and are now seeking any tips that the public may have about a fire. Sawyer County Deputies were dispatched to a fire complaint in the Village of Couderay. While responding, they were informed that the Memorial for Sawyer County Deputy Michael Villiard had been lit on fire. POLICE CONTINUE SEARCH IN DRUG OVERDOSE DEATH

Police are searching for another person charged in connection to the death of a Lake Holcombe woman last year. Investigators said Zach Dietrich was charged with reckless homicide in the drug overdose of Carissa Kasmeirski in March 2019. Dietrich told investigators he bought methamphetamine and used it with Kasmeirski the day she died. Another woman was charged last month for selling the drugs to Dietrich.
