CVTC GIVES FINAL BUDGET APPROVAL

The Chippewa Valley Technical College District Board gave final approval Thursday, June 25, to a fiscal year 2020-21 budget that prepares for implementation of the $48.8 million referendum approved at the spring election. The budget also allows for the expansion of high school academies through use of grant dollars and the start of new programs in Graphic Design, Practical Nursing and Agriculture Technician. BEAR HUNT PERMIT APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED SOON

The Department of Natural Resources says the application process for the bear hunt season opens on Wednesday, July 1st.  Last year nearly 120-thousand people applied for a bear hunt permit with only about 11-thousand-500 permits available.  The deadline to apply for black bear hunters who need a Class A license for that season is December 10th. POTENTIAL COVID-19 EXPOSURE ALERT

The Eau Claire City-County Health Department is alerting the public of potential COVID-19 exposure at two Eau Claire County establishments. Anyone who was at these establishments on the given days and times AND are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 should contact their provider to get tested. Both establishments are cooperating with the public health investigations. WI CORONAVIRUS TRENDS SHIFT

After weeks that saw Wisconsin’s COVID-19 activity listed as trending better, new listings rank the state as trending poorly.  Eau Claire County is ranked high for coronavirus activity.  Chippewa County is listed as medium and Dunn County is ranked low for coronavirus activity.  State health officials reported 464 new confirmed cases of coronavirus yesterday, though hospitalizations are down from earlier this month.

CORONAVIRUS BUDGET SHORTFALLS AFFECT COUNTY SALARIES

It looks doubtful that Eau Claire County employees will receive a salary increase this year because of budget shortfalls blamed on the coronavirus.  This week, the county’s COVID-19 task force approved a resolution calling for an immediate suspension of salary increases for all county employees.  Another resolution it approved would close county facilities one day a month for the next six months.  The resolutions will be considered by the Administration Committee July 7th.

SUSPECTS CHARGED IN MURDER

The three suspects charged in the murders of one of the suspects’ grandparents appeared in court yesterday.  21-year-old Adam Rosolowski, 17-year-old Joseph Falk and 16-year-old Tristan Shober are charged with the murders of Robert and Bonnie Rosolowski two weeks ago.  Police say the three suspects went to the house of the grandparents of one of the suspects.  They say the suspects were going to kill the grandparents of Adam Rosolowski because they messed up his life.

SEX OFFENDER TO BE RELEASED IN EAU CLAIRE

The Eau Claire Police Department has been notified Sex Offender being released in our area. 44 year old Robert E. Meeks, will be released from prison on June 30th and will be under supervision by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC). Meeks’ previous convictions include: – 3rd Degree Sexual Assault (June, 04 2010) – Eau Claire County  Meeks will be residing at a DOC monitored residence in the 100 block of Randall Street in the City of Eau Claire.

WI COVID-19 CASES CLIMB, LOCAL UPDATES

State health officials are confirming now more than 26-thousand-330 positive COVID-19 cases across Wisconsin, as of the latest update.  Since the onset of the pandemic, statewide 768 patients have died from the virus. As of the latest report Thursday, about 78-percent of those infected with the coronavirus have recovered.    However, the state of Wisconsin is getting an F-plus grade for the way its handled the coronavirus outbreak in prisons.  The American Civil Liberties Union and the Prison Policy Initiative released a report Thursday

TRUMP VISITS WI SHIPYARD

President Trump is touting the efforts of a Wisconsin shipyard and the U.S. military.  He visited Fincantieri Marinette Marine to officially launch a new five-point-five billion dollar Navy shipbuilding contract to construct up to ten guided-missile frigates.  The initiative will create up to one-thousand jobs in the region.  The President said it’s part of his administration’s effort to restore the military.  Trump said the ships will feature some of the most advanced air research and air search radar capabilities in naval history.

CHIPPEWA FALLS HIRES NEW SUPERINTENDENT

The Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District is getting a new superintendent next month.  The school board unanimously approved offering the job to Jeff Holmes, who accepted.  Holmes is currently the superintendent for the Germantown School District.  He will start his new job in Chippewa Falls on July 1st.
