WI CORONAVIRUS CASES GO UP, HOSPITALIZATIONS LOWER

Wisconsin saw the number of people testing positive for the coronavirus go-up over the weekend, but hospitalizations seem to be lower. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported 457 positive tests. DHS also reported over six thousand negative tests. That pushes the daily-positive-test-rate to just over seven percent. DHS is also reporting 239 people in the hospital, that’s down ten from last week.

NEW SUPERINTENDENT LOOKS FORWARD TO REOPEN SCHOOLS

The new superintendent for Chippewa Falls schools says the first thing on his to-do list is to reopen schools. The district last week hired Germantown Superintendent Jeff Holmes to take over in Chippewa Falls. Holmes says his number one priority is to find a way to get kids back in school safely this fall. Holmes’ first day on the job is Wednesday.

AUTHORITIES DIALING UP HELP IN MISSING PHONE BOOTH CASE

Be on the lookout for a missing phone booth in Dunn County. The sheriff says someone stole the red and silver phone booth from County Highway W, just outside of Ridgeland late Saturday night or early yesterday morning. Deputies aren’t saying why someone would want a phone booth. They are, however, asking for help in finding it.

MISSING CHIPPEWA FALLS MAN FOUND SAFE

The search for a missing Chippewa Falls man is over. Authorities on Saturday said that 73-year-old David Smith was found and was safe. He was missing for several hours on Friday. Police say he drove away from his home. There is no word as to where he was trying to go.

There will be more talk about expanding Medicaid at the Wisconsin Capitol today. Governor Evers’ Task Force On Caregiving is set to meet and prepare a draft proposal. The agenda is full of advocates and lawmakers who want to find ways to improve care in the state. One of the ideas is to expand Medicaid in order to cover more people. RESPONDERS SEARCH FOR MISSING BOATER

 First responders search for a boater who disappeared in Lake Kegonsa.  Dane County Fire officials say the person jumped into the water off the boat yesterday but never resurfaced.   The incident happened near Amundson Landing and Quam Drive last night around 7:30-p.m.  The search resumed this morning. Fish Camp Boat Launch and county park will be closed today during the search procedures.

HIGH SPEED CHASE TOPS 100 MPH

A stolen vehicle chase hit speeds over 100 miles per hour. It was just after 1:30 on Saturday morning Troopers from the Wisconsin State Patrol were involved with a high-speed pursuit involving a stolen vehicle. Upon attempting to stop a vehicle for speeding on I-94 at Mile Post 122 westbound in Jackson County near Black River Falls, a vehicle increased its speed to approximately 103 mph. POSTIVE COVID-19 TESTS CLIMB IN AMONG YOUNG PEOPLE

COVID-19 testing is moving along at a fast pace at the Alliance Center test site. On Thursday, 22-hundred people were tested, the largest single day number for Dane County.  Yesterday’s numbers come out soon.  County health office spokesperson Katarina Grande says there has also been a spike in positive test results mainly among young people who have been out and about at gatherings and eateries.

WI COVID CASES NEAR 27K

The number of COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin is nearing 27-thousand.  There are no new coronavirus deaths reported today but there are 520 new positive cases.  That’s 56 more cases than were reported yesterday.  To date, 766 Wisconsinites have died from Covid-19.
