ELECTION CHANGES TO EXPECT BEFORE POLLS

More changes are coming before Election Day in Wisconsin. A federal appeals court yesterday unanimously reinstated most of the state’s 2016 election law changes. The ruling means early voting in Wisconsin will be shrunk to two weeks, people have to live in the state for at least a month in order to vote, and voters won’t be able to get their ballots by email or fax. INSURANCE COVERAGE EXTENDS TO ALL

Wisconsin’s insurance commissioner is making it clear that insurance policies in the state must cover healthcare for trans people. Commissioner Mark Afable sent a memo to insurance companies yesterday explaining that his order includes breast removal and breast enhancement surgeries. Afable says the recent Supreme Court decision on trans discrimination applies to healthcare decisions as well, not just workplace decisions. HIGH WATER LEVELS ARE CLOSING TRAILS

Showers and thunderstorms that moved through Wisconsin early this morning and additional forecasted heavy rain will result in increased levels on the Chippewa River in Eau Claire. At 8 a.m. the Chippewa River gauge at Grand Avenue read just over 761 feet, which is 12 feet below the flood stage reading of 773 feet. SEARCH CONTINUES FOR MISSING BOATER

The search for a missing boater on Lake Kegonsa continues.  Crews in Dane County are looking for the man who was last seen Saturday night jumping off a boat.  The dive team scoured the area at Fish Camp County Park in McFarland yesterday and closed the area where the search was underway.  A dive team is not being used in the search today but a drone is.

CRASH INJURES TWO

Early on Sunday morning the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office received a report of crash near the Buffalo Trempealeau County Line. Searching by law enforcement located the crash on CTY P near the intersection with Piepers Valley Rd. HEAVY STORMS AFFECT TRAVEL, POWER FOR SOME

Several roads are closed this morning after heavy rainfall and storms over the weekend. The Baldwin Police Department said due to extreme flooding, travel near Baldwin, Woodville, and Hammond is not advised. The police department said Highway-63 and L-Road are not passable and very dangerous. Road blocks are currently in place to keep drivers away. Eau Claire police say someone is putting spike strips on the roadways. Police said they took reports of spike strips on Ferry and Menomonie streets last week. Police say to watch out for the homemade strips which are made out of a board with screws sticking out of one side.

WI MINK PRODUCTION HITS HIGH

Wisconsin is the largest mink producer in the country. After COVID-19 outbreaks among animals in Europe, agriculture officials are warning farmers about the risk of infection. So far there haven’t been any reported outbreaks in the state, but the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture has new guidance for mink farmers and veterinarians working on ranches.  Wisconsin has 67-mink farms, estimating nearly 227-million-dollars in exports per year.
