CORONAVIRUS BUDGET SHORTFALLS AFFECT COUNTY SALARIES

It looks doubtful that Eau Claire County employees will receive a salary increase this year because of budget shortfalls blamed on the coronavirus.  This week, the county’s COVID-19 task force approved a resolution calling for an immediate suspension of salary increases for all county employees.  Another resolution it approved would close county facilities one day a month for the next six months.  The resolutions will be considered by the Administration Committee July 7th.

SUSPECTS CHARGED IN MURDER

The three suspects charged in the murders of one of the suspects’ grandparents appeared in court yesterday.  21-year-old Adam Rosolowski, 17-year-old Joseph Falk and 16-year-old Tristan Shober are charged with the murders of Robert and Bonnie Rosolowski two weeks ago.  Police say the three suspects went to the house of the grandparents of one of the suspects.  They say the suspects were going to kill the grandparents of Adam Rosolowski because they messed up his life.

SEX OFFENDER TO BE RELEASED IN EAU CLAIRE

The Eau Claire Police Department has been notified Sex Offender being released in our area. 44 year old Robert E. Meeks, will be released from prison on June 30th and will be under supervision by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC). Meeks’ previous convictions include: – 3rd Degree Sexual Assault (June, 04 2010) – Eau Claire County  Meeks will be residing at a DOC monitored residence in the 100 block of Randall Street in the City of Eau Claire.

WI COVID-19 CASES CLIMB, LOCAL UPDATES

State health officials are confirming now more than 26-thousand-330 positive COVID-19 cases across Wisconsin, as of the latest update.  Since the onset of the pandemic, statewide 768 patients have died from the virus. As of the latest report Thursday, about 78-percent of those infected with the coronavirus have recovered.    However, the state of Wisconsin is getting an F-plus grade for the way its handled the coronavirus outbreak in prisons.  The American Civil Liberties Union and the Prison Policy Initiative released a report Thursday

TRUMP VISITS WI SHIPYARD

President Trump is touting the efforts of a Wisconsin shipyard and the U.S. military.  He visited Fincantieri Marinette Marine to officially launch a new five-point-five billion dollar Navy shipbuilding contract to construct up to ten guided-missile frigates.  The initiative will create up to one-thousand jobs in the region.  The President said it’s part of his administration’s effort to restore the military.  Trump said the ships will feature some of the most advanced air research and air search radar capabilities in naval history.

CHIPPEWA FALLS HIRES NEW SUPERINTENDENT

The Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District is getting a new superintendent next month.  The school board unanimously approved offering the job to Jeff Holmes, who accepted.  Holmes is currently the superintendent for the Germantown School District.  He will start his new job in Chippewa Falls on July 1st.

EC COUNTY FAIR WILL GO ON… NOT OPEN TO PUBLIC

The Eau Claire County Fair will take place but with significant changes due to COVID-19.  The event is being held on its originally scheduled dates of July 27th to August 2nd, at the Eau Claire County Exposition Center.  However, it won’t be open to the public.  Open class judging is canceled and the number of people on the fairgrounds at once will be limited.

LABOR DAY PICNIC PACKS UP

The annual Labor Day Picnic in Eau Claire is canceled this year due to COVID-19 pandemic.  The Greater West Central Area Labor Council said they can’t sponsor a celebration hosting 200 adults and children in the midst of the virus causing cancellations across the state.  The picnic was scheduled to take place on September 7th.

WI SEES PLUMP AT THE PUMP

Wisconsin gas prices are continuing to rise as more of the country re-opens from the coronavirus pandemic.  According to Triple-A, the average price for regular unleaded in the state is two dollars and 14 cents per gallon, up seven cents from last week and up 24 cents from last month.  The average price in Madison is a little higher at two-16 per gallon, up ten cents from last week.  Some of the cheapest gas in the state is in Outagamie County

PACKERS HALL OF FAME RE-OPENS

The Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame will re-open to visitors on Monday.  The museum has been closed since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it’s since been implementing safety protocols to keep fans healthy.  Capacity will be limited to ensure visitors can maintain a proper social distance.  The hall of fame will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. daily.
