IMMIGRATION RAID LEADS TO CUSTODY

Multiple restaurant employees are in custody after an immigration raid in Bloomer.  Police say Immigration Customs Enforcement arrested three workers at Casa Mexicana last week, forcing the restaurant to close down for three days.  No other details about the raid have been announced.

LA CROSSE HOME DAMAGED IN FIRE

No one is hurt from a weekend house fire in La Crosse.  Reports say the fire broke out Saturday afternoon on the first floor of a house in the 21-hundred block of Winnebago Street.  The fire was put out quickly but not before moderate damage was done to the house.  The cause is under investigation.

UPDATE: 01. 14. 2020: In regard to the train derailment incident East of Knapp, US Highway 12 has been reopened. It’s going to be a little while before everything is cleaned-up along the railroad tracks near the Village of Knapp. A Union Pacific train derailed there yesterday afternoon. No one was hurt, and the train wasn’t carrying any hazardous materials. The Dunn County sheriff says Highway 12 is closed til further notice because of the wreck. There’s no word how

Eau Claire’s push to replace lead pipes across the city could have some homeowners looking at a new bill. The city council is set to vote tomorrow on a plan to replace about 800 lead pipes across the city. The fear is that lead pipes can be dangerous for some children. A couple of Eau Claire-area lawmakers want to see a new law that forces presidential candidates in Wisconsin to pay their bills. State Senator Jeff Smith from Brunswick and state Rep. Jodi Emerson from Eau Claire will debut their plan this morning. The Recovery of Unsettled Municipal Payments Act would require campaigns pay for police and fire protection and other rally-related costs before they could hold any other rallies. MANHUNT LEADS TO ARREST FOR LACROSSE SHOOTING SUSPECT

The search for the man who shot and killed an 18-year-old in La Crosse back in November is over. U.S. Marshals arrested 27-year-old Shavonte Thompson on Friday in Peoria, Illinois. Thompson is also a suspect in a shooting in La Crosse in March of last year. There’s no word on why Thompson was in Peoria. Prosecutors say they are working to get him back to La Crosse to face charges.

ELK DEATH TRACED TO CORN

Wildlife experts with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources are blaming corn for the death of an elk in a state forest. The elk died earlier this month near Tony, Wisconsin in Rusk County. DNR says it looks like the animal ate some corn that was still in the field. Corn can cause severe digestive problems for elk and deer. DNR says the elk was wearing a tracking device that alerted the state when it died.

WI SEES MORE FLU DEATHS

The  Department of Health Services says a child has died from the flu in southeastern Wisconsin.  Officials said yesterday that a child under 10-years-old died on the way to the hospital.  It’s unclear if they were vaccinated.  The DHS says 15 people have died from the flu in the state so far this season, but this was the first child death.
