Apartment Complex Could be Coming to EC

A new apartment complex could be coming to downtown Eau Claire. The city Planning Commission passed a vote to recommend the development to the City Council last night. The proposal is met with opposition from the owners of two downtown bar owners who say their patio and parking space will be taken over by the new development and cause the businesses financial harm. The proposed complex is a five-story building with commercial space and a patio.

Mr. West Comes to WI

Kanye West’s presidential campaign is reaching Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Elections Commission confirmed yesterday that the rapper’s campaign staff dropped off signature papers at the state office in Madison. The commission says the West campaign must now get at least two-thousand valid signatures from Wisconsin electors and a declaration of candidacy form for both the presidential and vice-presidential candidates.

Chippewa Falls Man Sentenced to Jail Time

A Chippewa Falls man will serve two years in jail for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old over a five-month period. A criminal complaint shows 28-year-old Joshua Terrazas admitted to forcing the girl into sexual acts with him between May and September 2018. Police said Terrazas told them he molested her.

WI Covid-19 Case Numbers Causing Confusion

The reason why Wisconsin’s coronavirus hospitalization numbers are all over the place is because there are problems with tracking just how many people are being treated for the virus. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday said 294 people are in the hospital with the virus, 111 are in the ICU. Election Managers Seek Help for Primary

A lot of local election managers in Wisconsin need some help for next week’s election. The Wisconsin Election Commission yesterday said local clerks need more than 900 people to volunteer at the polls. The shortage is being caused by the coronavirus. The WEC’s Meagan Wolfe says many poll workers are older and most at-risk for the coronavirus. The Wisconsin National Guard helped cover the polls back in April when there was a similar shortage. But Wolfe says the Guard may not be available next week.

Sex Offender to be Released in Ladysmith

The release of a convicted sex offender in Ladysmith is coming with a warning. The state’s Department of Corrections yesterday said 36-year-old Michael Crouse is a risk to commit another sex crime. He is to be released into Ladysmith next week. Crouse served time for two sex crime convictions, including a 2004 sexual assault of a child. Rusk County’s sheriff says Crouse’s pictures are online for anyone to see.
