Brooks Files to Represent Himself

Darrell Brooks, the man who killed six people in the Waukesha Christmas parade attack is firing his lawyer. Like he did before during his month-long criminal trial, Brooks wishes to represent himself going forward. In paperwork that was filed last Friday, Brooks court-appointed attorney says Brooks wants him to withdraw from his appeal case.

La Crosse Schools Shine Light on New Energy Plans

The La Crosse School district announced its new climate action plan Monday night. The district says the effort is intended to reduce environmental effects, provide healthier learning environments, and create a stronger, more resilient future for the community and kids. Short-term targets for 2030 and long-term targets for 2050 are outlined in the Climate Action Plan to reduce energy consumption, switch to renewable energy, cut waste, and include sustainability into the classroom.

Before he could find out he was chosen for the Packers Fan Hall of Fame, John Brosig passed away. His son Max submitted the paperwork for his dad who was the 27th member inducted into the Fan Hall Of Fame. Max accepted the nomination Monday afternoon, while holding a photo of his father. City Looks for Community Feedback

The city of Stevens Point is looking into renovating Goerke Park but it wants the community to weigh in.  Mayor Mike Wiza says meetings will be held in the next few months for people to share ideas on what they want to see at the park.  The next community input meeting will be held next month.

Stage Set for Spring Primary

Wisconsin’s spring primary election is tomorrow. Jill Underly, Brittany Kinser, and Jeff Wright are on the ballot statewide, all running for the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Voters could also see local Common Council and court judge elections on their ballots. Winners of primary elections will move on to the spring general election, scheduled for April first.

Madison is the second-best US state capital to live in, according to a new study. WalletHub compares capital cities based on metrics like cost of living, crime rates, and quality of K-12 schools. Madison is only beat out by Austin, Texas, at number one. Raleigh, North Carolina, Boise [[ BOY-see ]], Idaho, and Atlanta, Georgia, round out the top five.

Big Hearts for Heroes: Valentines for Veterans Receives Overwhelming Support

“To everyone who sent in cards, and to all who continue to support Wisconsin’s veterans—thank you. Your kindness makes a difference.”  Thanks to the generosity of people from across Wisconsin and the nation, the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) was able to distribute thousands of Valentines Day cards to Wisconsin veterans last week. WDVA Secretary James Bond personally delivered cards on Valentine’s Day to the veterans, loved ones, and Gold Star families residing at our home in Union Grove.

WI Snowmobiler Treated After Going Through Ice

A snowmobiler in Fort Atkinson was being treated for hypothermia after his sled went through the ice on Lake Koshkonong Saturday morning.  It happened around 11:30 a.m. and the friend who was with the man was able to reach shore and call for help.  Fort Atkinson Fire Department crews reached him about a mile from short around 12:10 p.m.  He was hospitalized in Janesville for hypothermia.
