Governor Tony Evers and Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul are both expressing disappointment in the State Supreme Court ruling regarding lame duck laws passed in late 2018.  The court today upheld the laws passed by the Republican dominated legislature that reigned in the powers of the incoming Democratic Attorney General.  Kaul says the decision undermines the authority of the Attorney General.

A boating incident serves as a reminder for water safety as we try to beat the heat. It was on July 7th, 2020 at approximately 6:30pm when the Sawyer County Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a boat fire with injuries at the Black Lake Campground in the Town of Draper. After cleanup efforts that included area evacuations and work most of the day, traffic is again flowing after an early morning chemical spill. A portion of Highway 53 north at Interstate 94 West was temporarily closed.  The online alerts map at 5-1-1-Wisconsin showed there was a crash on north bound Highway 53 this morning.  The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Northwest Region tweeted the north and southbound lanes were closed because of a semi-rollover and clean up efforts began shorty after responders discovered the

The Chippewa County Health Department is encouraging businesses to require masks as COVID-19 cases go up in the county. Health Department Director Angela Weideman says testing has increased in the county, but the number of positive cases is going up, too, meaning the ratio between testing and positive cases is continuing to go up.  The health department encourages masks but says they’re not mandatory. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION FROM CHIPPEWA CO.

Some county operations employees could soon be furloughed.  The Eau Claire County Administration Committee approved the resolution to close county operations one day each month for the rest of the year.  The committee decided on those days employees that are not law enforcement, a 24-hour operations worker, or working at the airport, won’t get paid. The county board will vote on the resolution July 21st.  

Anyone who works for the state of Wisconsin now has to wear a mask. Governor Evers yesterday ordered all state employees to wear masks whenever they’re inside a state facility. That includes state offices, parking garages, elevators, bathrooms, while someone is waiting in line to enter a state facility, and whenever anyone is inside an enclosed building on state business.

The University of Wisconsin Madison’s new focus on ending White Privilege will mean more than just a new mandatory class for all in-coming students. UW Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank yesterday released her plan to address racial inequity. Altoona’s former superintendent of schools is looking at more charges in the sexual abuse and child pornography case against him. Prosecutors this week added the charges against Dan Peggs. A new indictment says that from October 2015 through May 2016, Peggs recruited someone who was underage for a ‘commercial sex act.’ Peggs is looking at a mandatory minimum ten years in prison if convicted.
