Eau Claire County Recycling is offering discounted recycling fees for electronic waste collection during tomorrow’s Clean Sweep event. First Choice Computer and Electronic Recycling and W-R-R Environmental Services are also helping with the clean-up effort. It starts at 8 a.m. and ends at noon. Waste can be taken to 52-hundred Ryder Road.

In case you thought it was a little TOO cold, too early…you were right. Eau Claire set a new temperature record this week. Tuesday, it was 54-degrees, the lowest high temperature the city has had since 1946. On that date, the lowest high temperature recorded was 60-degrees.

Officials Seek “Cat Burglar”

There is a 500 dollar reward for a stolen cat sculpture in Eau Claire. The city’s Sculpture Tour yesterday said it wants the cat returned, and wants whoever took it to be charged. Eau Claire Police say the sculpture was taken from the corner of Water Street and Third Avenue Wednesday night. It’s worth almost nine thousand dollars.

EC Man Out After Brief Stay in Jail

An Eau Claire man is already out of jail for a shooting last December that left a man and a dog wounded. Judge Emily Long on Tuesday sentenced Antonio Wilson to two days in jail and a fine for the armed robbery and shooting during a drug deal. Wilson pleaded no contest in the case. The other man charged in the case, Xavier Gentry, was placed on probation earlier this summer.

Businesses Focus on Staying Open

Bars, restaurants, and shops in Eau Claire don’t want to get shut down again. Business owners say they are watching the city’s coronavirus numbers very carefully. At least half of the 200 positive coronavirus tests this week are from UW-Eau Claire. Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce CEO David Minor says the best thing local businesses can do is to clean, and ask customers to wear their masks.

WI Coronavirus Tests Climb

As we look at the bigger picture, the latest coronavirus count in Wisconsin shows that college students are driving the spike in positive tests. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported over 15 hundred new positive tests. DHS also reported that one-quarter of all positive tests in the state are in people between 18 and 24. Political Cliff Notes: Mail In Ballots Hit Snag, Gov. Names People’s Map Commission

There is a hiccup in the timeline to mail ballots in Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Supreme Court yesterday ordered local clerks not to mail ballots until the justices decide if the Green Party should be added to the November ballot. The Wisconsin Election Commission split on that question because of a technicality on the party’s nominating paperwork. The pause could be problematic. The president’s campaign yesterday said he will speak at a rally in Mosinee next Friday. The rally is set for 7 p.m.  Vice President Mike Pence is also due in the state next week. Flags to Be Lowered on 9/11

WI Green Party Candidate Files Lawsuit

The Wisconsin Supreme Court is putting a hold on the mailing of absentee ballots.  The state high court announced the ruling today as it considers a lawsuit filed by Green Party candidate Howie Hawkins.  Hawkins is challenging the decision by the state elections commission to keep him off the ballot.  Nearly a million absentee ballots have been requested and the high court wants to review that information before ruling on the Hawkins’ lawsuit.
