CITY COUNCIL VOTES DOWN AID TO BUSINESSES IN MADISON

Business owners in downtown Madison are not going to get any help from the city to rebuild after last month’s violent riots and looting. Madison’s city council last night voted down a proposal to spend 250 thousand-dollars on the downtown area. Alderwoman Rebecca Kemble said downtown is the ‘whitest neighborhood in the city.’ She wants to see Madison spend its money in minority neighborhoods instead. WIAA KICKS AROUND SPORTS PLAN

We could know about high school football in Wisconsin by the end of the day tomorrow. The WIAA, the group that runs high school sports in the state, is set to talk about a return to fall sports tomorrow. The question is how can teams compete and comply with social distance requirements. One suggestion is to move spring sports to the fall, and delay fall sports til next spring. The fall high school sports season is supposed to start next week.

LAMBEAU LEAPS INTO LIMITS

Lambeau Field will be mostly empty this season. Packers CEO Mark Murphy yesterday said they are looking to limit crowds to somewhere between 10 thousand and 12 thousand fans. That would be between 10 and 15 percent of Lambeau’s capacity. Murphy says in addition to the limit on crowds, fans will see health checks, mask requirements, and waivers before even getting in the gate. Murphy says this season will be different.

WI CORONAVIRUS CASES HIT DAILY HIGH

The number of COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin top one-thousand for one day for the first time ever.  The Department of Health Services says the positivity rate in the Badger State is seven-point-seven-percent.  The latest report confirms one-thousand-117 positive cases today.  There were 13 more deaths reported bringing the total number of people who have died from the coronavirus to 859. There have been over 46-thousand-700 cases reported statewide since the outbreak began.

WI WALMART EMPLOYEES CAN PLAN ON TURKEY TIME

Black Friday bargain hunters in Wisconsin won’t get an early start on holiday shopping at Walmart this year.  The retail giant announced today it will close its stores on Thanksgiving so employees can spend time with their families.  There are 100 Walmart stores statewide, including 80 Supercenters.  Nearly 30-thousand people are employed at Wisconsin Walmart stores.

WISCO FAIRS GO DRIVE-THRU

 The first-ever Wisconsin Fair-Food drive-thru weekend gets underway on Thursday.  State Fair officials want fair food lovers to get their fix regardless of the fair’s cancellation because of the coronavirus.  The State Fair is usually held in West Allis which is where the drive-thru food fair will be held featuring different menus each week.  The food fair is part of the 2020 State Fair Necessities Program. COON FORK OPENS FOR SWIMMING

The Eau Claire County Parks & Forest Department announced that water testing results by the City County Health Department indicate that Coon Fork Dayside and Campground Beach water is now within acceptable health standards and is therefore now open for swimming. Lake Altoona Beach, Big Falls Wading Area, and Lake Eau Claire Beach will remain closed due to elevated levels of bacteria until further notice. EAU CLAIRE COUNTY SEES SECOND COVID-19 DEATH

Two people are now dead from coronavirus in Eau Claire County. Health Director Lieske Giese confirmed that it was a female younger than 50-years-old who had preexisting health conditions. CLARK CO. SEX OFFENDER BEING RELEASED

A convicted sex offender is being released from prison in Clark County soon. The Clark County Sheriff’s Department says 63-year-old Charles Montgomery was convicted of sexual assault of a child. He’ll be released from prison August 4th and live on County Highway B in Humbird.
