STUDENTS PLEAD NOT GUILTY TO SCHOOL THREATS

Two Marshfield High School students accused of making bomb threats are pleading not guilty.  Reports say 17-year-olds Alyssa Portz and Simone Rootellis entered their pleas to making terroristic threats earlier this week.  The girls are accused of writing bomb threats on a bathroom stall back in December.  They’ll be back in court in June.

HOSPITAL FUNDING BILL MOVES FORWARD

A bill passes through the Wisconsin Assembly that would give millions of dollars to hospitals in the Chippewa Valley.  The bill passed unanimously Tuesday.  Reports say it would appropriate 15-million-dollars to HSHS Sacred Heart and Saint Joseph’s Hospital to add psychiatric beds.  It will now be considered by the senate.

OAKLAWN ELEMENTARY GROWS ART

Oaklawn Elementary School in Menomonie has a new 3-D mural.  The mural is in the library and it shows a bean stalk growing out of a book with a castle on top.  University of Wisconsin-Stout and Arts Integration Menomonie collaborated to make the painting.  Students at the elementary also helped paint clouds on the mural.

It’s not just your imagination, there really has been more snow than usual in the Chippewa Valley this winter. Forecasters yesterday said the winter of 2019-2020 has dropped just over 50 inches of snow, so far. The average for a winter in Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls is 47 inches. LOCAL TROOPS NOT AFFECTED BY BANKRUPTCY

The Boy Scouts Troop in the Chippewa Valley is not going to be impacted by the Boy Scouts of America’s decision to file for bankruptcy. Local Boy Scouts CEO Tim Molepske says the local troop is a separate entity from the national council. Molepske says the Chippewa Valley troop will be able to carry-on. The Chippewa Valley Council serves about 42-hundred kids in ten counties in western Wisconsin.

LAWMAKERS MAKE SPLASH FOR WATER LEGISLATION

Wisconsin lawmakers have taken the first big step toward a new package of water quality laws. The State Assembly yesterday approved 13 proposals that would do everything from encourage conservation to test wells to create a new state water quality office. Most of the proposals saw support from both Republicans and Democrats. Governor Evers has made water quality one of his top priorities, he’s expected to sign most of the plans into law.

TRIBAL LEADERS OUTLINE CHALLENGES

Wisconsin’s tribal leaders are pressing state government for more help in fighting opioids and for some assistance in finding quality workers. Ned Daniels Jr., the chairman of the Forest County Potawatomi Community, used yesterday’s State of the Tribes speech at the Capitol to press for help. Daniels says the opioid crisis has hit the state’s tribes hard. Native Americans had the highest rate of opioid deaths in the state back in 2018. But Daniels says there is also hope. He

INCIDENT SENDS 2 TO HOSPITAL

On Tuesday, February 18, just before 10 in the morning the Buffalo County Communications Center received multiple 911 calls of an assault that took place at 8630 Weisenbeck Road in the Town of Nelson, which is near Urne. Initial investigation has indicated that two males were assaulted and have sustained significant injuries. Both injured persons were transported via air ambulances.
