Food vendors went against each other as they battled it out for the title best wings in La Crosse yesterday. The event raised money for the local non-profit Black Leaders Acquiring Collective Knowledge. The group works to empower and uplift the greater La Crosse black community through leadership development and educational programs for youth. Winners of the competition took home a trophy along with a cash prize. This was the 2nd year of the friendly fundraiser.

The I-94 resurfacing project starts next month in Madison.  WisDOT said the ten-mile construction project will take place east of the County North interchange to east of the Airport Road overpass.  Its purpose is to prolong the lifespan of pavement and structures.  Motorists may run into nighttime and off-peak road and ramp closures.  A public meeting is being held Monday starting at 5 p.m. at Cottage Grove Village Hall.

The Chippewa County Executive Committee authorized Dave Bretl and Jon Hochkammer, of Public  Administration Associates, LLC (PAA), to discuss the parameters of an employment agreement with County  Administrator finalist, Andrew (Andy) Albarado, with whom we now have a tentative agreement.  The Executive Committee will meet on March 4, 2025 to finalize the employment agreement and resolution to  appoint Mr. Albarado and forward to the County Board.   No action to appoint Mr. Albarado is final until the full County Board takes

Nominations are now being accepted for the Best Burger In Wisconsin contest. Establishments with the most votes will make the top eight in March. A secret panel of judges will visit each of the establishments to try the burgers, and judge them based on taste and appearance. A winner will be announced in May, which is Beef Month in Wisconsin. Is it drafty in here? It will be soon as the NFL draft heads to Green Bay! The NFL showed a sneak peak of what they are envisioning for the 2025 draft that will be in Green Bay this spring. The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office released its annual crime report. Over 7,300 arrests were made in 2024. The biggest increase in crime the county saw in 2024 was camping on city property. Another increase officials saw was the use of cocaine. The largest decrease in crime that officials saw was Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated. The La Crosse Common Council has revoked Latino Bar and Grill’s liquor license. Multiple allegations were made of underage drinking at the bar.  Police say over 320 citations were written to the bar and its patrons since the bar opened in 2022. The bar’s owner said the judgment was unfair and has no plans on closing.

Great River Harley-Davidson announced for the second year in a row they obtained platinum service. Achieving this cements them as one of the best Harley-Davidson dealerships in the county. They rank 13th overall out of 531 dealerships. The dealership is going through some major renovations and look to open with a “re-grand opening party” later this summer.
