Pedestrian Killed in Crash

The Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash with injury and one person unresponsive. A Gibson’s Water Care box truck that was westbound on STH 64 struck a female pedestrian on a curve in the roadway. The pedestrian, 63 year old Christine J Prueher of Greenfield was transported by ambulance to Mayo Bloomer and then by helicopter to Mayo Eau Claire where she underwent surgery and succumbed to her injuries. Deadly Accident in Buffalo Co.

On September 16 th a bit after 10PM. The Buffalo County Dispatch received a 911 call advising of a one vehicle accident along STH 35 in which a 2016 Jeep Cherokee was upside down just north of the US Corps of Engineers Boatyard in Fountain City. Compared to years past, political sign theft and damage is down in Eau Claire County. Sheriff Ron Cramer yesterday said most people are being respectful of their neighbors, even if they do support different candidates. The sheriff says many people are turning to trail cameras to catch would-be thieves or vandals. Many communities across Wisconsin are reporting an uptick in political sign thefts as the election draws near.

Local Leaders Look at Extending Mask Mandates

You may be getting used to wearing a mask now, and could be extending that habit into winter months in Menomonie. City leaders are considering their own mask requirement that would last through the end of the year. Governor Evers’ mask requirement is set to end at the end of the month. Menomonie Mayor Randy Knaack yesterday said they want to be ready in case the governor does not extend that mask mandate.

Coronavirus Reported After Schools Return

The principal at Regis Catholic Schools is telling parents about two positive coronavirus tests. No one is saying who tested positive, but the school said the positives came from Immaculate Conception Elementary School and the girls’ middle school tennis team. You can ignore the texts, calls, and postcards you may be getting about re-registering to vote before November. The Wisconsin Election Commission this week said those reminders are not coming from them. Big Ten to Kick Off in October

Wisconsin Badger fans around the state are celebrating the return of Big Ten football.  The conference made it official this morning that the teams will kick-off their season the weekend of October 23rd.   The conference had postponed the season because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but changed course in recent days.  Among the new protocols in place are a cardiac evaluation for any athlete testing COVID positive and a 21 day waiting period to return to play following a positive diagnosis.
