UW Whitwater Chancellor Under Investigation

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Chancellor Dwight Watson is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.   UW Systems President Tommy Thompson said today a complaint was filed against Watson prompting the investigation.  Thompson did not explain the nature of the complaint and said there would be no further comment at this time.

Construction Reminder Over Labor Day Weekend

The Department of Transportation is reminding drivers that as many lanes as possible will be open for traffic but construction zones may still present some closures over the holiday weekend.  There is work going on in over 12 counties.  Drivers can check out travel conditions and any closures that might be on their route on the Wisconsin DOT website.

Program Designed to Support WI Arts

There is a new grant program in Wisconsin designed to support the arts.  Governor Tony Evers says cultural organizations are not only a great source of pride but they are also critical to the state’s financial recovery.  Eligible organizations can receive up to 250-thousand-dollars to cover pandemic related costs like lost revenue, cleanup and hazard pay.  The Department of Administration is accepting applications through the end of this month.

Taylor Co. Investigation Leads to Drug Bust

Further investigation into what led Trinity Keiser to open fire with an AK-47 rifle inside the residence and outside on the street in the Village of Rib Lake, Taylor County on August 26th , 2020 led to information being obtained related to an ongoing drug investigation. WI Returning to Work

More Wisconsinites are going back to work. Unemployment numbers this morning from the U.S. Department of Labor show Wisconsin filed around 13-thousand-900 initial claims the week ending August 22nd. That’s nearly one-thousand less than the previous week. Claims are still up in the state from last year. 880,000 Americans filed new claims for state unemployment last week progressing from the early weeks of the coronavirus pandemic when six-million-people were unemployed.

Labor Day Safety Reminders

Chippewa County’s health director is suggesting people pass on Labor Day parties this weekend. Angela Weideman says the safest option is not to have a gathering, but if it does happen, she’s asking that it’s done responsibly. She says chairs should be placed six feet apart as a reminder for guests to social distance, extra masks should be available; she suggests using paper towels instead of cloth for your guests and encouraging everyone to drink from their own cup.

Human Case of EEE Confirmed

Public health managers in Eau Claire say a local girl is just the fourth person in the state to have come down with Eastern Equine Encephalitis in the past half-century. No one is naming the girl, Eau Claire county’s health director will only say she is younger than 18. The state’s Department of Health Services last week confirmed six cases of EEE in horses. UWEC Back to Campus

The desks are a little further apart and everyone is wearing a mask, but other than that it is school-as-usual at UW Eau Claire. The university yesterday had its first day of in-person classes since March. Students say they are happy to be back in class and back on campus. University leaders say they are trying to enforce their coronavirus safety plan that includes masks, social distancing, and limited gatherings on campus.
