Investigators in Barron County say a love triangle is part of what lead to a murder. A jealous husband is responsible for last weekend’s homicide in Chetek. Prosecutors yesterday filed formal charges against 25-year-old Andrew Brunette. They say he killed his estranged wife’s new boyfriend, Garrett Macone, on Sunday. Investigators say Brunette walked into Macone’s home, found the two in bed, and shot Macone twice in the head. Brunette is being held on a million-dollars bond. He faces life in

Rittenhouse Due in Illinois Court

The young man accused of killing two people and wounding a third during Kenosha’s nights of violence last month is due in an Illinois courtroom to see when he will be coming back to Wisconsin to face charges. Kyle Rittenhouse has a hearing in Lake County, Illinois today. Prosecutors in Kenosha have filed homicide charges against him. It is the next step back to normal for a lot of communities across Wisconsin. High school football returns tonight. The season was delayed because of the coronavirus. The WIAA says teams and schools will follow the coronavirus safety rules, that will mean social distancing and masks for everyone who is not playing in the game. Many schools say they are happy to finally get back to the games and the Friday night routine.

UWEC Group Pushes for Removal of Campus Cops

The latest campus protest at UW-Eau Claire would get rid of the school’s police department. A group of about 100 people gathered for yesterday’s Cops Off Campus protest. Organizer Stephanie Hoeksema says the goal is to not only kick university police off campus, but to abolish the police all together. She says policing in the United States is racist. The university didn’t say if it planned to act on the protesters’ demands.

Bucky Loses Big Bucks

A shortened Badger football season will not save UW Athletics from losing tens of millions of dollars. UW’s athletic CFO Adam Barnes said on Wednesday they will likely lose between 60 million and 70 million dollars this year. The expectation was that, without football, UW Athletics would lose 100 million-dollars. In addition to no ticket sales, Barnes said fewer football games will mean a lot less money from TV. That will be a huge loss.

 Wisconsin’s governor wants Badger fans to watch the games from home this year. Governor Tony Evers yesterday said football fans need to stay safe. The governor wants all Big Ten universities to push for safe football watching this season. Here in Wisconsin, the governor said that means no fans in Camp Randall Stadium, and a lot fewer fans in Madison on game days. CDC Unwraps Risk

The mayor of Stevens Point is using the words “recommending against” instead of “banning” when it comes to trick-or-treating this Halloween. Mayor Mike Wiza yesterday said it’s just too risky to have kids going house-to-house for candy this year. Instead, Wiza is suggesting that parents share pictures of their kids in costume, or pictures of their decorated houses with the city. Both the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the CDC are also recommending against trick-or-treating this year as well.

WI Troops Welcomed Home

Soldiers with the Wisconsin Army National Guard are back home after a year-long deployment.  About 150 soldiers return today after mobilization in the Middle East and Afghanistan.  A traditional homecoming ceremony was not held because of COVID-19 restrictions.  The soldiers are with the 829th engineer company which deployed overseas in October of last year and supported construction missions at 21 bases across the Middle East.
