Kyle Rittenhouse’s lawyer is still on the case but is no longer in charge of a growing legal defense fund. Attorney John Pierce on Friday stepped away from the hashtag-FightBack Foundation fund to avoid any appearance of impropriety. Pierce is accused of not paying donors at his firm. The fund has raised over 700-thousand-dollars so far. Blake Family Pushes for Change

The latest day of protests in Kenosha saw Jacob Blake’s family back out in the streets. Blake’s uncle, Justin, spoke with members of the Legislative Black Caucus, and demanded that lawmakers in Madison do something. Blake said lawmakers need to “get out here and serve” and need to “feed the people,” but he didn’t have any thoughts as to what new laws could have prevented his nephew’s shooting.

Rare Disease Claims Life in Chippewa Co.

Western Wisconsin’s second human case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis has become deadly. Public health managers in Chippewa Falls say a Chippewa County woman in her 60s passed away from the virus. She is the second person this year to be confirmed with EEE as a young woman from Eau Claire County was the first. EEE is spread to humans from horses by mosquitoes, and it is a rare disease. UW Campuses See Coronavirus Case Jumps

The coronavirus quarantine dorm at UW-Eau Claire is filling-up, but not everyone who’s being quarantined has tested positive. The university yesterday said 69 students have tested positive for the virus since arriving on campus last week. Positive students are being sent to Putnam Hall for a two-week quarantine. Columbus Statue Relocating

The Columbus statue in Columbus, Wisconsin will soon have a new home. City leaders say they are sifting through proposals for the future of the nine-foot fiberglass statue. Columbus moved the statue back in July, so the city is now looking to find a new owner and a new home. A decision on who gets the statue could come later this week, with another move for the statue in late November.

Harris in WI for Labor Day

Kamala Harris will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for Labor Day.  Senator Harris will tour an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Training Facility and speak with IBEW members and Wisconsin labor leadership. Following the tour, Senator Harris will attend a roundtable with Black Milwaukee business owners entitled “Build Back Better.”  At the roundtable, Senator Harris will discuss how a Biden-Harris administration would advance racial equity as part of our nation’s economic recovery.

UW Student Government Voices Covid-19 Concerns

The University of Wisconsin Madison’s student government wants learning to be online from home.  News Three Now reported yesterday that the Associated Students of Madison group is calling on school officials not to open up campus for classroom instruction due to COVID-19 concerns.  The students want all classes to revert to online instruction only.  They want dorms to have a reduced population and mandatory COVID-19 tests for everyone prior to attending events.
