Referendum Passed, But Budget Fails?

Chippewa Falls Schools may be short, even with their new seven-and-a-half million-dollar tax increase. The school district says it is looking at a million-dollar-plus deficit over the next two years, even after the three-year referendum that passed this year. Local Candidate Launches Re-Election Bid

Joshua Miller says he wants to focus on homelessness if he’s elected again to Eau Claire’s city council. Miller launched his re-election bid over the weekend. He said his focus is addressing the needs to people who are experiencing homelessness, and dealing with affordable housing in Eau Claire. Wisconsin’s Democratic Party boss is looking to move up. Party chairman Ben Wikler yesterday announced a bid to become the next Democratic National Committee chairman. Wikler said in a video that he wants to unite the Democratic Party, fight, and win. Wikler successfully led the Democratic Party of Wisconsin to a series of wins, including Governor Evers’ statewide victory in 2022. Monroe Co. Man Facing Charges After Thanksgiving Stabbing

A 33-year-old Monroe County man is facing multiple charges in connection with a Thanksgiving night stabbing.  The stabbing happened at a residence in the town of Tomah.  Attempted first-degree homicide and disorderly conduct are among the charges against Justin T. Novak of Tomah.  A police department news release on Saturday said the victim is in the hospital, but there’s no word on the victim’s identity or condition.  Novak is being held in the Monroe County Jail in Sparta.

Black Friday Sales Hit Big Green

U.S. shoppers spent nearly eleven-billion dollars online on Black Friday.  New data from Adobe Analytics says that’s up ten percent from last year.  The top online items this year were makeup, skincare and haircare products along with speakers and espresso machines.  Meanwhile, analysts say retail chains like Macy’s, Kohl’s and Target could see a dip in sales this holiday season with only 26 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Sky High Travel Numbers

The FAA says it handled a record 232-thousand flights during Thanksgiving week.  More than 52-thousand flights carried passengers last Tuesday alone.  Officials say just one-and-a-half percent of all flights were delayed or cancelled which is also a record.  To help handle the heavy volume, the FAA allowed commercial aircraft to use special military airspace off the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico.

Bucky Basketball Puts Up Wins

The Badger men’s and women’s basketball teams are helping to warm fans’ hearts after the football team’s loss on Friday.  Both the UW men and women posted wins on Saturday.  The 17th-ranked Badger men’s basketball team remained unbeaten with a 74-53 win over Chicago State at the Kohl Center.  John Tonje hit nine-of-ten free throws and led all scorers with 22 points.  The Badger women capped their appearance in the Cancun Challenge on a winning note with a 58-45 victory

Bucks Keep the Streak

The Milwaukee Bucks’ winning streak is up to six, thanks largely to a triple-double by Giannis Antetokounmpo.  The All-Star finished with 42 points, 12 rebounds and eleven assists in the Bucks’ 124-114 win over the Washington Wizards Saturday at the Fiserv Forum.  Milwaukee has won eight of its last nine games to overcome a three-and-eight start.  The Bucks are at Detroit on Tuesday and then host Atlanta on Wednesday.

NORAD is tracking Santa Claus again this year. Today, the North American Aerospace Defense Command will launch its “NORAD Tracks Santa” website, which features a holiday countdown, games, movies, holiday music and more in “Santa’s North Pole Village.” NORAD will also have a downloadable app available for multiple devices. Santa tracking will begin at 4 a.m. on Christmas Eve and end at midnight Mountain Standard Time. Children can also speak with a live operator about Santa’s whereabouts by calling 1-877-HI-NORAD.
