WI Lung Transplant Patient Heading Home

 A lung transplant patient who underwent the procedure due to COVID-19 issues is now out of the hospital. Double lung transplant recipient Carmen Lerma was discharged Thursday from University Hospital where she has been since October.   UW Health’s Doctor Dan McCarthy says Lerma survived the COVID-19 infection but her lungs were damaged by the disease requiring the transplants. WKOW reported yesterday Lerma is the first COVID-19 patient in Wisconsin to undergo double lung transplant surgery.

WI A.G. Joins Other States in Opposition

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul joins 21 other state attorneys general in opposition to the DOJ’s investigation of alleged voter fraud.  In a statement yesterday Kaul said such an investigation “undermines confidence in the electoral process.”  Besides Wisconsin, the attorneys general of California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington also signed the letter sent to DOJ chief William Barr.

EC Schools Plan to Shift to Online Learning

Effective Monday, November 30, the Eau Claire Area School District will move all students to fully virtual learning for a temporary period. This transition will affect all grade levels. The District expects this model to remain in place through Tuesday, December 8th. Rest Easy, Golden Boy

Green Bay Packers “Golden Boy” Paul Hornung has died at the age of 84.  Hornung was the NFL MVP in 1961 and played on four championship teams.  He also helped the Packers win their first ever Super Bowl in 1966 against the Kansas City Chiefs.  He was eventually inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1986.  Hornung has been celebrated by Packers coach Vince Lombardi as “the greatest player [he] ever coached.”  He died in his hometown of

Lawsuit Filed In WI Ballot Count

A federal lawsuit filed Thursday is calling for ballots in three Wisconsin counties to be excluded from the count.  The three plaintiffs claim Milwaukee, Dane and Menominee counties were overwhelmed by illegal absentee ballots to change election results in favor of Joe Biden who the state.  They didn’t provide any actual evidence of voter fraud, but included stories from people who said they received multiple ballots.  The plaintiffs listed the county clerks, members of the Wisconsin Elections Commission and Governor Tony Evers as defendants.

WI Sees Bump in Deadly Accidents

There are more people dying in car accidents in Wisconsin this year despite fewer cars being on the road.  The Wisconsin Department of Transportations reports 518 traffic-related deaths so far this year, an increase of 33 compared to all of last year.  They say the main reasons are speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving and fewer people wearing seat belts.  Officer Josh Miller of the Eau Claire Police Department says it’s important for drivers to stay focused on the road and slow down as weather

Hunger Relief Efforts Get Boost in WI

Two hunger relief organizations in Wisconsin are getting ten-million-dollars to help feed hungry families.  Hunger Task Force and Feeding Wisconsin will use the funds to buy food, and for storage and transportation.  The donation is part of the state’s Food Security Initiative.  The Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection and Governor Tony Evers have invested 75-million-dollars into state agriculture and food industries since the pandemic began.

Today, the Eau Claire City-County Health Department is releasing revised COVID-19 Community Expectations. These Community Expectations were first released on October 15, 2020. Since that time, Eau Claire County has seen a dramatic and dangerous increase of COVID-19 spread and is posting updates to try and stop the spread in our community.
