WI COVID-19 Deaths Reach New One Day High

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services confirms a new record for COVID-19 deaths in one day.  A total of 32-hundred-and-79 new coronavirus cases were reported today which is also a single-day record.  The 34 deaths today to bring the death toll to over 15-hundred Wisconsin residents killed by the virus.

Evers Announces Additional Funding for Early Childcare

Governor Tony Evers says there will be an additional round of Child Care Counts payments.  The governor announced 50-million-dollars in funding for early childcare and education.  Qualified programs can get applications and eligibility information beginning October 26th.

Multi-vehicle Crash Injures Drivers

Highway-53 near the Village of Ettrick is open again after a three-car accident that injured two people. The Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office said it happened yesterday evening when one driver was hit from behind, then hit again by another vehicle driving the other way. Two drivers were taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Highway-53 was closed for several hours after the crash. The crash is still under investigation.

Woman due in Court for Stabbing Incident

A 67-year-old woman is appearing in court today, accused of stabbing her husband. Wheaton resident Karen Christenson is facing 16-years in prison for reckless endangerment and battery charges. According to a criminal complaint, her husband told police his wife did it because she was tired of him stealing her property. The woman later admitted to stabbing her husband. Her husband was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.

EC Man Facing Charges for Sexual Assault

An Eau Claire man is facing charges for allegedly raping a teenage girl.  Eau Claire police say 19-year-old Maxwell Munz was charged for taking a 14-year-old to a parking ramp and forcing himself on her in January 2019. The girl told police Munz secured the child locks so she couldn’t escape. This is the second time Munz has faced charges for having sexual contact with a minor. Charges against him for a separate May 2019 incident were dropped last month.

Vehicle Fire Closes Interstate

A fire near Hammond closed portions of I-94 for over 5 hours. It was just after 6:15 pm on Monday, October 12th when the Wisconsin State Patrol took a report of a vehicle fire on the shoulder of I-94, west of Baldwin. A semi trailer carrying grocery products was fully engulfed in flames whenTroopers arrived on scene. One lane of I-94 remained closed for five and one-half hours, while crews worked to put the fire out and clean the scene.

WI COVID-19 Hospitalizations Up, Overflow Area Set to Open

The number of people in the hospital in Wisconsin with the coronavirus is at an all time high. The Department of Health Services yesterday reported 950 hospitalizations. Of them, 240 people are in the ICU. DHS yesterday reported nine new deaths to bring the state’s coronavirus death toll to 14-hundred-74 since March.
