The Eau Claire City-County Health Department is showing strengths and weaknesses with its newly released annual report.  Some of the report’s positive aspects were the creation of a Child and Youth Data Report, which tracks health trends, increased access for mental health options and promoting physical activity.  On the downside, the report showed the need for improvements, such as access to healthcare.  This particularly impacts those in rural areas.  The full report is available WITH AN EASY CLICK HERE.

A Wisconsin man accused of murdering his wife nine years ago is now facing homicide charges. Prosecutors say James Radford of Fairbanks told investigators his wife, Sabrina Radford, shot herself in 2016.  After investigators couldn’t confirm her cause of death, an investigation was launched.  The Sheriff’s Office concluded Sabrina Radford did not die of suicide and recommended charges to the Shawano County District Attorney.  James Radford is now in custody and is being held on an 800-thousand-dollar bond.

There are more details are about a Milwaukee apartment building fire that killed five on Mother’s Day.  Milwaukee Fire Chief Aaron Lipskisays fire crews responded to the building near 27th and Highland within three minutes of the first 911 call on Sunday morning.  Firefighters used ladders to rescue almost 40 people, and guided dozens through thick smoke.  Six people are still in the hospital.  Chief Lipski says the now-uninhabitable building, built in 1968, did not have a sprinkler system but

On Monday, May 19, the Health Department will kick off its yearly beach monitoring program, which starts in late May and ends around Labor Day. An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting in Jackson County. Police say this all unfolded early yesterday morning when officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the Town of Hixton.  The driver allegedly fled and a police chase ensued.  The pursuit ended when the suspect’s vehicle came to a stop along the 81-hundred block of Sand Prairie Road.  Police say an officer shot the suspect during the encounter, who remains in critical condition. The City of Eau Claire has received a 1.68 million dollar payment as part of the class action settlement with 3M over PFAS contamination.  It’s the first installment of the 9.4 million dollar settlement.  Payments will be made through 2033.

Feed My People will hold its 25th Annual Empty Bowls fundraiser later this week in Eau Claire.  The event is aimed at combating food insecurity. Last year’s event raised over 230 meals.  The fundraiser will be held on Thursday from 11 a.m to 7 p.m. at the Feed My People Food Bank on Alphine Road.  More information is available online WITH A CLICK HERE.
