Madison City Clerk Maribeth Witzel-Behl is placed on leave. The City says the decision is related to almost 200 ballots that weren’t counted during the 2024 presidential general election. The Elections Commission says the ballots were found sealed in a bag after the election was already called. City Attorney Michael Haas will serve as interim clerk. He’s been with the city clerk’s office for twelve years. Witzel-Behl’s position will be reconsidered once an investigation into the mishandled ballots is complete.

UW Health says it’s agreeing to extend its participation in the Anthem Blue Cross network. Anthem members will still be able to get in-network coverage until July first. The agreement was initially set to expire next month. UW Health says the new agreement will affect Medicaid and Medicare patients looking to get treatment from UW Hospitals and Clinics.

A woman from Laona is facing one charge after stealing over 95 thousand dollars from her dad. Heather Robinson was listed as the guardian for her dad who is living in a long-term nursing home facility in Forest County. In court documents, it states that she took money out of his account from 2023 until 2024. Documents also state that she spent over 67 thousand dollars for online gambling. Robinson’s initial court date is April 15th.

The La Crosse City Council is set to vote later this week on a proposal that would let the city enter into an agreement with the state of Wisconsin to reconstruct State Road from Losey Boulevard to the city’s east border.  This project would improve the road conditions on this stretch. The city says it should cost about 800 thousand dollars.

The number of vehicle accidents have increased by five percent in La Crosse County. Over 3-thousand-400 car accidents were reported last year.  The number of fatalities from the accidents were the highest they have been since 2001.  Eight people died last year from car accidents.  Speeding and distracted driving were two of the major issues that caused some of these accidents last year.  The Area Planning Committee is going to work on safety action plan to resolve some of the

Billy Joel has announced that he is postponing his Milwaukee show due to an illness. Billy Joel was supposed to play on April 26th. He made the announcement on X yesterday. According to Joel’s post, he will be delaying the start of his tour by four months, allowing him to recover from a recent surgery. A newly established scholarship at UW-Eau Claire, the Chancellor’s Spotlight Award, recognizes first-year students who faculty nominate for having found impressive success in their first semester of college, despite obstacles or challenges in school or life. Twenty-eight high-achieving first-year students at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire were honored with the new Chancellor’s Spotlight Award at an inaugural reception March 10.
