Checking in on Capitol Hill

For the first time Congress is overriding a President Trump veto.  The presiding officer announced the results. Both chambers of Congress needed two-thirds majority to overcome the President’s veto, and both got it easily.  Trump said he vetoed the bipartisan bill because he wanted Section 230 that grants liability protection to social media companies repealed.  He also objected to renaming military bases that honor Confederate leaders.  His other major issue was that it was not tough enough on China.

WI Looks to Boost Energy Rules

Wisconsin energy regulators are looking to update the state’s 17-year-old rules on customer-owned energy sources.  The move could make it easier for homeowners and businesses to create their own power.  Renewable energy advocates say clean energy technology has improved rapidly since the regulations were last updated, and aligning the rules with today’s technology could make it easier for rural residents to use clean energy.

Chippewa Falls Man Stopped, 5th OWI

A Chippewa Falls man received a 5th OWI after a traffic stop.   57 year old Gary A. Hedrington, was stopped a bit after 8 on the night of December 31st. A trooper stopped the vehicle for having a defective headlamp on Highway 27 near the City of Ladysmith. The driver was identified as Gary A. Hedrington and showed signs of impairment. A subsequent investigation, including standardized field sobriety testing, showed that Hedrington was operating a motor vehicle while impaired

Miller (Park) Tapped Out

You will no longer be going to Miller Park to watch a Brewers baseball game.  The stadium is officially renamed American Family Field as of today.  American Family Insurance took over the naming rights of the stadium as of January 1st and the new agreement lasts for at least the next 15 years.  The company is based in Madison.

 More states could be legalizing marijuana in 2021.  Sara Bartlett has the story. Heading into the new calendar year means that states will see new laws take effect as well. WI Unemployment a Mixed Bag Heading into 2021

Unemployment is mixed in Wisconsin in the final week of 2020. First time claims are up two-percent as continuing claims are down eight-percent.  In Eau Claire, more people filed first time claims than last week. Ongoing claims in the county are down slightly.

Pablo Center Exhibit Premiers Virtually

The exhibit was co-curated with a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Dr. Selika Ducksworth-Lawton. Bucky Sinks a Win

The number-six Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball team beat fellow Big-Ten rival, number-21 Minnesota last night. The Badgers beat the Golden Gophers 71-to-59. Minnesota recently beat the University of Iowa Hawkeyes, an impressive victory for the team. The Hawkeyes were then number-three.

Man Arrested After Vaccines Destroyed

A pharmacist at the Aurora Health Clinic in Grafton is in jail as state and federal investigators try and figure out a motive in the case of those spoiled coronavirus vaccines. Grafton Police arrested the man yesterday, they did not name him, but the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said 46-year-old Steven Brandenburg was booked into jail yesterday on charges in the case.
