Suspect in WI Mall Shooting Arrested in Iowa

The suspect wanted in the fatal shooting at Fox River Mall on Sunday is in custody. Police say 17-year-old Dezman Ellis was arrested yesterday afternoon in Des Moines, Iowa. Ellis is charged on several counts, including first-degree intentional homicide in the shooting death of 19-year-old Jovanni Frausto. Investigators say the shooting in the mall’s food court stemmed from an argument over a girl Ellis used to date.

Augusta Man Facing Animal Neglect Charges

An Augusta man charged with animal neglect made his first court appearance yesterday. A five-hundred-dollar signature bond was set for 21-year-old Devin Malcein. He is accused of failing to provide proper animal shelter and sanitation for confined animals and failing to provide proper food and water. Back in October, inspectors with the Department of Agriculture found twelve animal carcasses on his property, along with insufficient food and water and shelter. If convicted, Malcein faces up to 27 months behind bars

Governor Tony Evers has issued a new mask mandate order. This comes after the Wisconsin Assembly voted to repeal the Governor’s emergency order, which included a mask mandate. Yesterday afternoon, Evers issued the new public health emergency order and followed it up immediately with a re-issuance of Executive Order Number 1, the one that the Assembly just voted to end. Chippewa Co. Reports New Coronavirus-Related Deaths

Chippewa County has three new coronavirus-related deaths. That’s according to the latest information from health officials, who are also reporting thirty new cases. Vaccine Demand Remains High, Local Schools Won’t Mandate

 The new vaccine hotline and portal that launched on Wednesday have already generated a backlog of requests.  Milwaukee officials are urging patience and persistence after the hotline received over three-thousand calls and website got 250 hits per minute.  Many say they have received a message indicating that no appointments are available.  Mayor Tom Barrett says appointment availability depends on the amount of vaccines Milwaukee is supplied. Assembly Votes to Repeal WI Mask Mandate; Evers Fires Back

Governor Tony Evers’ mask mandate is a thing of the past…Or is it?  The Assembly voted today to repeal the governor’s emergency order effective tomorrow.  The state Senate voted to overturn the resolution last week.  Republicans called it an executive overreach. WI DHS Reporting Daily COVID-19 Snapshot
