 An East Greenwich eighth grader wins this year’s Rhode Island Spelling Bee.  Wheeler School’s Seoyon Kim’s proper spelling of the word [[ bout ]] sent her into the winner’s circle during Friday’s event.  The spelling bee was online only this year due to COVID-19 concerns.  Kim advances to compete for herself, her school and for Rhode Island in the preliminaries leading up to the Scripps National Spelling Bee finals in Orlando in July.  The preliminaries, quarterfinals and semifinals will happen

WI First Couple Get Second Dose

Governor Tony Evers and First Lady Kathy Evers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.    Wisconsin’s First Couple got dose number two Friday.  A year ago this past Thursday was the anniversary of Governor Evers first COVID-19 public health emergency declaration last year.  In a tweet after getting the shot, the Governor said he and wife Kathy “encourage every Wisconsinite to get vaccinated as soon as you’re eligible.”

WI Connections to Grammy Stage

A record producer originally from the Madison area is in the running for a Grammy award.  Middleton High School grad Bill Rahko is part of the team that produced British rocker group Coldplay’s eighth album released in 2019 entitled Everyday Life.  The work is up for an Album of the Year Grammy award this year.  The 63rd edition of the Grammy Awards 2021 happens tonight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on CBS starting at 8:00-p.m. Eastern time.

Goal of May for All WI Residents

If you are interested in a vaccine, Governor Tony Evers says starting in May all Wisconsonites will have access to the COVID-19 vaccine.  In yesterday’s statement the Governor said the general public will be eligible to get vaccinated starting May 1st.  Also the state’s Department of Health Services said on Thursday that those 16-years and older can start signing up to be vaccinated on March 29th. Human Remains Found, Investigation Continues

Human remains found in Wood County may be those of a man reported missing last year.   WEAU reported Thursday that Wood County Sheriff Shawn Becker’s office says confirmation of the victim’s identity from the medical examiner is still pending.  Sheriff Becker says the remains are suspected to be those of Zachary Vasa because an ID with his name on it was by his body found near Patton Drive and Fairhaven Avenue.  The 32-year old was last seen in Marshfield in

Demonstrators Rally at State Capitol

A group of demonstrators rally in favor of transgender rights in Madison.  Yesterday’s march went from the Doyle Administration building though downtown to the state Capitol.  Dozens of protestors lifted their voices against the enactment of what they claim to be discriminatory laws.  The protestors reject the laws that intend to ban transgender athletes who are physiologically male but who identify as female from competing in biological womens’ athletics events.

7th Juror Added

The  trial of Derek Chauvin now has seven jurors.  A woman was selected Friday and joins five men and one woman in the jury box.  The new juror said she has seen the video of the former Minneapolis police officer kneeling on George Floyd’s neck, and claimed, “Not all police are bad, but the bad-behavior police need to go.”  Chauvin is charged in Floyd’s death while in police custody last May.

Trails Near Chippewa River Closed

Recent rain and snow melt in the upper Chippewa River watershed are causing increased river levels on the ChippewaRiver in Eau Claire. At 11 a.m. on Friday, March 13th, the Chippewa River gauge at Grand Avenue read 764 feet. This is 9-feet below the downtown flood stage of 773 feet.
