Looking Local: Blugolds to present projects at Research in the Rotunda

Crews Respond to Barstow St. Fire

On Sunday March 23rd, at approximately 1:56 p.m. the Eau Claire Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 412 N Barstow St. Engine 2 was the first arriving unit and found smoke coming from the first floor apartment with a small fire located in a bedroom. The fire was quickly extinguished using a water extinguisher while secondary crews conducted searches to ensure all occupants were out of the structure. Transit Center Sets Sights on Summer

Local officials are providing an update to the Eau Claire Transfer Center Project.  The transit portion of the center is nearly 100-percent complete, while the private residential housing portion of the project is under active construction.  Design and build out of the two ground-level spaces will take place this next fall.  Beginning later this summer, the exterior of the apartments will be complete, allowing streets to re-open and buses to begin using the Transfer Center.

WI Postal Workers Send Message, Join Nationwide Rallies

Wisconsin postal workers are speaking out against suggestions from President Trump that the post office should be privatized.  Members of the National Association of Letter Carriers held rallies in Madison, Milwaukee, Green Bay, and across the country yesterday, saying broad changes to the U.S. Postal Service would negatively impact mail delivery that essentially all Americans rely on.  Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency has reportedly called for ten-thousand job cuts to the postal service and Trump has suggested moving U.S.P.S.

Parking Garage Safety Rolls Into Bipartisan Bill

State lawmakers are considering a measure aimed at increasing the safety of parking garages across Wisconsin.  A bipartisan bill that has been introduced in Madison would require the structures to undergo inspections every five years.  The push comes after a garage at the Bayshore Mall in Glendale partially collapsed in 2023, stranding several cars.  Back in 2010, a section of concrete fell from a parking structure in Milwaukee County, killing a teenager and leaving two other people hurt.

WI Women Heat up the Ice

The Wisconsin women’s hockey team is celebrating after winning their eighth national championship.  Kirsten Simms scored the game-tying penalty shot with seconds remaining in regulation before scoring the winning goal in overtime to lead the Badgers to a 4-3 victory over Ohio State in Minneapolis yesterday.  Wisconsin rallied to win its fourth NCAA title in the last seven years.

Menomonie Police Seek Tips on Recent Armed Robbery

On Saturday, March 22, 2025, at approximately 9:05 p.m., the Menomonie Police Department responded to an armed robbery at 1501 9th St. E. / Bob and Steve’s BP Amoco. The initial investigation showed a male subject entered the business and told the store clerk he had a handgun as he went behind the counter.
