President Biden Honors Lives Lost to COVID-19, WI Continues Downward Trend

Nationally, President Biden is honoring the 500-thousand Americans who have died from the coronavirus. Alcohol Believed to be Factor in Dunn Co. Crash

On Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 9:47 PM, the Dunn County Communications Center received a report of a head-on crash on US Highway 12/29 near the intersection of 670th Street in the Town of Red Cedar, East of Menomonie. Evers Goes Big on Capitol Spending

Governor Tony Evers wants to go big on capital spending.  The governor today released a list of projects for the next two years which includes a new 164-million-dollar state office building in Milwaukee.  The governor has included projects in 31 counties in his two-point-three-eight-billion-dollar capital budget.  The governor says low bond rates is what makes this a perfect time to invest in infrastructure.  The governor’s budget also includes 150-million-dollars for building projects within the UW system.

Former Badger Pleads Not Guilty

Former Badger football player Marcus Randle El pleads not guilty to the murder of two women in Janesville.  Randle El is charged with the deadly shooting of Brittany McAdory and Seairaha Winchester a year ago.  Randle El appeared virtually in Rock County Court this morning to enter his plea.  A trial date has not been set.

Gas prices could be going up in Wisconsin after winter storms in Texas froze oil refineries. Gas-Buddy-dot-com says the average price for a gallon of gas in the state is already up ten-cents from last week. The average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded gas in Eau Claire County is 2.66-cents. Triple-A says Americans can expect prices to be upwards of three-dollars by Memorial Day.

Hunting Down Local Fun

The thousand-dollar hunt for an engraved stone will resume tomorrow morning. The Chippewa Valley Treasure Hunt Group awards one-thousand-dollars to whoever follows the clues and finds the stone hidden somewhere on public property. The stone was found over the weekend and had to be rehidden. The group says Dave and Kayla Proffitt are the first finders and the winners of a one-thousand-dollar prize.

EC Trail Updates

Eau Claire County Trail is closed this morning. Trail reports from the Associated Snowmobile Clubs of Eau Claire County say the trail closed at 8 a.m. It’s unclear when it will reopen. The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office posted to Facebook encouraging trail users to join a trail or snowmobiling club for information about open trails and snowmobiling across county lines.

Taking the “Plunge” For Local Cause

 Donations for the Special Olympics are still being accepted through the 2021 Polar Plunge in Eau Claire. Saturday people gathered in Pinehurst Park for sledding, snowshoeing, or walking and raised more than nine-thousand-dollars. Events in the past saw participants diving into icy water for donations, but not this year because of the pandemic.
