Severe Weather Awareness Week in WI

This is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Wisconsin.  The National Weather Service and Wisconsin Emergency Management are asking people take time to go over their safety plans so they’ll be ready when severe weather strikes.  Officials say the time to prepare is before a storm hits.  People should have a severe weather plan in place for their home, their workplace and for the car should they be on the road.

MN Police Chief: Accidental Discharge Led To Death Of Daunte Wright

The police chief in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota says it appears the officer who shot and killed Daunte Wright thought she was using her taser. Police Chief Tim Gannon made the comment today at a news conference along with showing with body camera video of Sunday’s shooting. Police had stopped the 20-year-old for expired license tags. The governor of Minnesota says “it doesn’t have to be this way” as his state deals with two high-profile police shootings involving Black men.  Democrat

Calling All Young Artists

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources wants high school students to submit designs for it’s next state park admission sticker. The department says the contest is open to any 9th through 12th grade students at any school in Wisconsin. They say the winning design will be displayed on more than 30-thousand vehicles in Wisconsin in 2022. Submissions are being accepted now through April 30th. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFO.

Local Vaccine Clinic Open to Public

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire is encouraging students to get vaccinated at it’s on-campus clinic this week. The school is administering the two-shot Pfizer vaccine at Zorn Arena. The mass vaccination clinic opened last week and community members were able to get their shots there, too. The health department says nearly 27-percent of Eau Claire County residents are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. CLICK FOR MORE INFO.

DNR Asking for Deer Harvest Input

The D-N-R is asking for public input to determine deer harvesting numbers this season. On its website, the state department of natural resources deer management zones map shows Eau Claire, Chippewa, Dunn, and Clark County in areas where populations should be maintained. The D-N-R says the public comment form will be posted online and shared on social media starting today through April 25th.

Investigation Continues in Rusk Co. Shooting

We could get more answers today about a shooting in Rusk County on Friday that left one person dead and another in jail. The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting came after an ‘altercation’ in the small town of Sheldon on Friday night. One man died in the shooting, and a person of interest was arrested. Investigators have not identified either person, or said what the altercation was about.

WI Vaccination Efforts Continue

It is the latest milestone number for Wisconsin’s coronavirus vaccination effort. The state’s Department of Health Services yesterday reported that nearly 25-percent of people in the state are now fully vaccinated. That’s one-point-four-million people. Electric Companies Urge Payment Plans

Wisconsin’s ban on shutting off the power is ending, and western Wisconsin’s power company says that means people need to make arrangements for their past-due bills. Xcel Energy says anyone who owes should make a payment arrangement as soon as possible. Wisconsin’s moratorium on disconnections ends on Thursday. Xcel’s Chris Ouellette says that doesn’t mean the power will be shut off that day, it simply means the process to shut off the power will begin.

It’s the sign of a warm spring. The state’s Department of Natural Resources says mosquito season has begun in Wisconsin. Researchers say the lack of late snow means more bugs are up and ready this spring. DNR says the best thing you can do is to empty your yard of any standing water so you don’t provide mosquitoes with a place to lay their eggs.
