Man Picks Up 6th OWI

Wisconsin State Patrol says a 60-year-old is facing charges for hitting two cars and driving drunk on Interstate-94 over the weekend. State Patrol says Kena Gleason was pulled over and found to be nearly twice over the legal limit Saturday evening. Gleason is facing their sixth O-W-I offense, failure to have an ignition interlock device installed and driving with a revoked license.

Gas Prices Dip a Bit

Gas prices are down in Wisconsin for the first time in weeks. Gas-Buddy-dot-com reports a slight drop in the last week, down two cents. The cheapest price for a gallon of unleaded gas in the state today is two-dollars-and-44-cents. The most expensive in the state is 2.99.

Donation Makes Splash for World Water Day

A GoFundMe is set up to raise money for World Water Day in Madison. The fundraising site was set up by Clean Lakes Alliance, an organization promoting education about clean water to elementary school kids. They say an anonymous donor agreed to match donations up to 10-thousand-dollars. The campaign runs through April 22nd.

Beginning today, individuals aged 16 and older with nearly 20 different medical conditions, including cancer, diabetes, heart disease, pregnancy, and others, become eligible for vaccine. Domestic Call Leads to Arrest in Barron Co.

Gar was used to get a suspect to surrender in Barron Co. It happened on Friday, March 19, 2021, at 8:24 p.m., when the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a call from a female subject stating that her husband was intoxicated and causing problems at a residence near Reeve. Local Economy Gets Federal Boost

Eau Claire is getting some federal money to recover from economic fallout caused by the pandemic. County Administrator Kathryn Schauf told PBS Wisconsin the county will get about 20-point-three-million-dollars from the federal government.  She says the money will be used to stimulate the community through public health, social services, broadband, and public schools projects. She called the funding a significant investment into the local economy.

Broadband Boost Could Help Local Service

There could soon be better internet access across Western Wisconsin. In a news release, the Public Service Commission says it approved nearly 60-grants to expand broadband statewide. There were 19-projects granted funds in Western Wisconsin.  Three projects were awarded in Eau Claire County and two were awarded grants in Chippewa County.

Back to the Bat

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire baseball team made history over the weekend. If you were flipping through the paper, you may have seen this in The Leader-Telegram. They reported the team took the field for it’s first varsity game since 1995.  The program was discontinued more than 20-years-ago and athletes have since been able to participate at the club level. The Blugolds lost to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The team’s home opener is set for April 2nd.
